Vernon signs with NYG after Jax visit: says Jax wasnt city enough.

Quote:So what? Who else you plan on spending the money on? Either you draft an unproven NFL pass rusher or you buy one. What's hard about this. Sure he might have cost us a cap hit of 18-20 million over 5 years but so what? You have a young ascending player who can play a position of need

I love what Vernon could have brought to this DL, but signing him to that deal would have been the sort of move that makes you push money further and further down the road--and that's before having to re-sign Bortles to a $120M+ contract.
Dude yes he's young, yes he plays a position of need. But the jags front office had a limit they were willing to go with Vernon and stuck to it. This years draft is already supposed to be defensive heavy, there's still good rotational guys out there in FA. They tried and it just didn't work out, so move on.

Probably because we didn't want to pay JJ Watt money to a guy who has 2/5's the production of a Watt
Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17 2016 draft players I think will be good
Robert Ayers is visiting with the Bucs, but he hasn't signed yet, and Tampa Bay isn't that far away.

You can always nail the OP of these kinds of threads.
It is as sure as the rising of the sun.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
Quote:You can always nail the OP of these kinds of threads. Okay so my question is what do you do with all the money? Who the hell thought you wouldn't have to overpay for a FA?
Quote:Robert Ayers is visiting with the Bucs, but he hasn't signed yet, and Tampa Bay isn't that far away. I'm pretty sure he will sign.
Hey AnchorMan!....
long time no see. Yep as Jagwired says....it was the guarantee...just too much. We got some good things added and Dave I bet has another surprise or two for us. And keeping the rooks next year is really, really important.
Because Jaguars is our mantra

Lol... the utterly predictable "WHY DID WE LET [INSERT NAME HERE] WALK! THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!" thread.
"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."
I think it means we might get another good player or two. Caldwell knows what he is doing.
Nailed it in the Malik Jackson thread:

I really wanted Vernon. But that's just too much money. Yes we have a lot of cap space, but we need money to keep the players we have.
I personally think regardless of the Giants signings that they'll be Super Bowl contenders. I have been wrong in the past Quote:I'm never one to complain about spending cause it's not my money. But nooooo way is this a good deal to make for us, that's wayyy to much money not only for us to gamble on a player (valued higher than Watt) but also impacting our future signings to keep our young guys. Agreed. There's a cap on what this team will spend on any player. Vernon is now the second highest paid defensive player in the history of the league. Sorry, but that kind of money almost requires more scrutiny, and consistent, sustained production. Vernon may very well prove to be worth it, but history says probably not. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:All this cap money...absolutely ridiculous JJ Watt is unquestionably the best DL i have seen in my young lifetime. olivier Vernon got more money than him. Enough said. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I don't think hes worth more than 10-12 mill a year. I'm glad they didn't overpay. Good move by dave
Probably didnt want to double down on a $90 million gamble
You Gotta Be Able To Run Da' Rock~
While he is a good young player at s position of need it's just the nature of free agency.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023. |
