Robert Aguayo

He will be gone before the 5th. I would use a 4th on him. How many games did we lose from a missed xp or field goal?

1. LB Myles Jack

2. C Ryan Kelly (possibly trade up to bottom of round 1 to get ahead of Browns)

3. BAP

4. K Roberto Aguayo (probably be gone by this point)

For what it is worth, Josh Scoobe said in an interview on the radio a couple of weeks ago that Aguayo was the best kicker he'd EVER seen coming out of college.  Said he had the same exact motion and approach every time, and that was very hard.

If Caldwell spends anything higher than a 6th or 7th on a kicker we have issues.

Caldwell is a 'needs' picker. So he may take him in the 4th or come back up with future picks.

Some of you have no clue what you're talking about. 4th round? Are you kidding?

Some team will draft him earlier than what a kicker "should" be taken in a draft.

Of course, there was Janikowski.

Plus, I remeber when Mike Nugent was an absolute stud kicker in his collegiate career. Prior to his draft,, the Jets had lost a playoff game directly because their kicker missed a couple FGs badly in that game.

When the draft came, they pulled the trigger early on Nugent. Lol

There will be somebody that drafts Aguayo by the 3rd, watch.

Overreacting to a need for a kicker and taking one early is how you get canned as a GM.  I think 5th round is high but if he's the greatest of all time then I can live with that.

If the Jags can get Roberto Aguayo in the 4th or 5th round I'll be pleased. He was a great kicker at Florida St and will be a long term fit wherever he goes.

He's that good. Someone will take a flyer and not have to worry about a kicker for the next 10-12 years.

Cool. He's still a kicker. This team has way too many holes to take a kicker in any round this year.

Common scenario:

Blake is moving the offense down the field. Within field goal range on first down we run the ball. Second down is manageable 5 or 6 yards. We go for a deeper throw, but doesn't connect. Third down and medium to go.

Drafting a kicker allows you to prepare to secure points in that scenario (assuming defense pins their ears back ans blitzs on 3Rd leaving us in fg range or worse om 4th).

I rather draft a guard or tackle so our best player (Bortles) stays upright and out of harms way. That way he makes those 3Rd down conversions more often leading to sustained drives and a touchdown.

Drafting a kicker is preparing for failure. Drafting more protection for our QB (and running backs) is building our core.

Don't waste a damn high pick on a kicker. I bet most of you advocating signing this guy draft kickers in FF too.

As good as he is, I'd still be iffy on using a fourth rounder on him.

I wouldn't be mad with a 6th for him at all, but I'm sure he'll be gone and I think they like Meyers anyway.

So 4th or 5th rd is a high pick now. Half the time these guys barely make a decent team. We should be starting to get to a point where later round picks have a hard time seeing the field. What kind of a return did we see from Sample last year. At least this guy would be contributing.

I could advocate for a 6th or 7th. He'd make a bigger impact than a Sterling or Koyack. But no higher than that.

I also am totally cool with not drafting him or a kicker at all, because well, they're a kicker.

Good point.... Should have taken a kicker in the 5th instead of Rashad Greene or Telvin Smith. Stupid Jags.

There's a very good chance that Samples is the starting strong safety and Telvin Smith says hello from the 5th round. The argument that these guys in later rounds shouldn't make the team is ridiculous. Very, very good players are found late in the draft. They just gave a record breaking contract to one in Jackson.
