Quote:There's a very good chance that Samples is the starting strong safety and Telvin Smith says hello from the 5th round. The argument that these guys in later rounds shouldn't make the team is ridiculous. Very, very good players are found late in the draft. They just gave a record breaking contract to one in Jackson.
No dude. You obviously don't get it. We need a kicker! Just like we needed a punter!

I don't care if someone has a gun to your head. Don't draft a kicker or punter ever.

Quote:I'd take him in the 6th or 7th. I'd rather have him over Neal Sterling or Ben Koyack... He'd be an elite special teams player that could win us games from the 58 yard line.
. Ok and I'd whether have Allen Hurns or Michael Bennett.

If Aguayo played for North Dakota State, this wouldn't even be a thread. But because he played at FSU, so many jaded people in this thread.

Quote:Overreacting to a need for a kicker and taking one early is how you get canned as a GM. I think 5th round is high but if he's the greatest of all time then I can live with that.

A 5th isn't too bad. If I recall correctly Scobee was a 5th round pick. 4th and above is pushing it.

I hear you on Scobee but again if there is an opportunity to draft Telvin or Malik Jackson id rather draft them. You can sign a kicker. Tom Brady was a 6th. Id always take a flyer on an actual skill position than a kicker I can get by other means.

It doesn't even look like Aguayo was that good last year.

21/26 isn't good.

Only one 50+ make isn't good.

4 of the misses were under 50 yards, doesn't seem too good either.

Never Draft A kicker. Never draft the overall kicking prospect when you have many other holes on the team.

*Kicks 58 yards for the tie, then shanks the PAT. Overtime, shanks a gimme, opposing team takes it down the field for the victory.

Still wouldn't draft any kicker before round 6, and the kicker drafted in six better be a epic talent.

Go look at our draft history and count the amount of picks 5th rd and after that actually had a GOOD career for us. Our track record well.....suxs. we dont pick the Brady or the Jackson player and not many teams do. Yes you will hit/get lucky on a player here or there but it is a pretty stacked deck.

Id take a late pick on him. Better than getting in a close game late and having to go for 2, Myers missed too many PATs. ask the pats how going for two works at the end of games????

Just judging by Caldwells 5th round picks.... Denard Robinson, Telvin Smith, Chris Smith, and Rashad Greene. You would rather take a chance on a kicker (and yes its a chance.... it's not like the dude is some all world prospect) than take one of those dudes?

It's ok to want Aguayo but this team need depth and talent in sooooo many other areas. You don't draft a kicker. You just don't. Whether you want to believe it or not, you don't do it.

If this kid were playing for any other team outside of the Florida area, we wouldn't even have this thread.

You guys are brutal. Myers was a rookie, yeah he lost us two games last season and missed xtra points, too bad our season would've been lost either way. The fact that he has a cannon for a leg should be the biggest indicator of his potential upside. Chill on the kid for another season at the least, if need be, bring in some kickers off the street to motivate him in training camp, we're talking about a kicker here. Although thinking about it, Janikowski was drafted in the first round with the 17th pick, pretty funny. I think Gostowski went in the 4th, but I'd be pretty upset if we drafted a Kicker in the 5th. Too many holes to be worrying about arguably the least important position on the team.

Don't waste a damn high pick on a kicker. I bet most of you advocating signing this guy draft kickers in FF too.

I will admit to reaching for Gostowski in the 5th or 6th when I can... just hard for me to pass up those guaranteed 8-15 points a week, lol.

Draft history is not just Caldwell. It is a lot worse from our previous Gm's. Anywayz Denard probably gone this year or next and would not have played if our rbs were not so poor. Smith prly gone and Rashad had one good play although he might still have a chance (maybe). And like I said earlier in this thread then there is Telvin. Look I sort of get it but it is not as taboo as a few like to make it.
