Vernon signs with NYG after Jax visit: says Jax wasnt city enough.

Quote:Yes we are in the position to turn away talent
talent isn't always worth the money you have to shell out to obtain it...We all know FA is all about the money and players are always over paid...Just because we have the money to spend, doesn't mean we have to spend it foolishly...Sometimes it's simply too much money for what you get...Would you pay $50 for a BigMac meal because you have a bank account with a $10mm balance or would you settle for a Whopper meal that cost only $10.00?

We could very well use the money we didn't use for Vernon and give it to Von Miller or Chandler Jones next year.

Miller may get locked up but then again, without a QB Denver may not win enough to decide to pony up for Miller next year......and the Patriots never sign their most expensive free agents.

Both of those guys are much better options than Vernon....even if it takes $100 mil to get them.

I wonder if he was talking about that HRO thing I keep hearing about.

And choose the creepy alleyways of New York instead?

Some people like the bustle of NYC. Others like a laid back JAX. To each their own. I have friends in NYC that think FL sucks. I have friends who think NYC sucks. Everyone is different, I don't need someone else to like FL to know it's for me.

Jacksonville wasn't the city for him.

He's not the player for that contract.

Life goes on.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Would you have gone with pliers or bamboo shoots under the nails for the smaller chance on long-term injury?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

The guy is a good young DE.  He has not shown he is a Superstar player.  The pay he just received is ridiculous.

I laugh at the money thing.  Things in Jax dirt cheap compared to NYC.  Living down south has its perks.  He will regret it one day that is for sure.  When the irs gets him years later.

That contract is going to blow up in their face.

Good for him for getting paid while he can.

I came across wrong. I meant to say there was no reason to be salty, not that other humans in this thread were being salty.

I'm happy things worked out the way they did. Caldwell showed an obvious will to get Gus an above average edge rusher this offseason; he went so far as to throw a 100 million dollar contract at a guy who had 7.5 sacks in a contract year. Dave is doing everything in his power to help Gus, and it should be pretty obvious at this point that pass rush help will be an absolute priority in the draft.

Again, I definitely don't blame OV if he didn't think Jax was his cup o tea compared to New York. That contract is gonna be one I'm fairly confident the Giants will regret, though.

I'm sure the 25 year old is worried about how much more expensive things are in NY compared to Jax while he counts his tens of millions of dollars. You're a fool if you think there's not about a thousand times more things to do -especially that would appeal to a young sports celebrity- in NYC than Jacksonville.

I do think the Giants will live to regret that contract.

"I’ve been in Miami all my life, 25 years," Vernon said. "It was like, I know New York is probably a little more faster paced, but I am a city guy myself and I think it will probably be a little better for me than Jacksonville. I don’t know if I would have been comfortable in Jacksonville, just with the whole environment. It’s a beautiful city. I’ve been there, I’ve played there twice, but I just don’t know if I would have been comfortable over there."

It proves the thought that GM Dave Caldwell has to over pay to get players to want to come here..

Quote:I don't blame him at all, just admit that it wasn't the size of the city that had anything to do with it! If we'd have offered him $17 million more and he still picked the Giants, THEN I would have believed that was the reason!
Agreed.  Taking a shot at Jacksonville because he took more money elsewhere is pretty weak.  All it does is perpetuate a stereotype.

For what he was offered to play here, he could have gotten a place on the ocean, and he could charter a flight to Miami so that he could hop to a "real city" in about an hour.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm a little curious how that 'proves' anything.

Quote:He must have forgotten about New York and their big income tax plus the sales tax up there is a killer.

Heck with him.

Plus, we have ample parking day or night and people shouting "Howdy, neighbor!"

... I think the Giants offered him more than enough money, compared to the Jaguars, that his take home pay from the Giants will be greater than what it would have been from the Jags.

My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
