Pats Trade Chandler Jones

Cooper wasn't good in Arizona, but has some upside.  Cooper is just a 'sweetener' for the deal...a late 2nd round pick for Chandler and his 1 year remaining in the contract.  In giving them the 2nd rounder, Arizona must be confident that they can get Chandler signed to a longer term deal.  I'm sure the Patriots called all edge rushing needy teams to see if they could get a better deal, including the Jags.  I'm surprised the Jags could not put a better package together.

Our 2nd rounder alone might have worked. It would have been a early 2nd.

Oh well, still no pass rush.

Wasn't expecting that.

This one stings. I would've traded our 2nd for Jones.

I'd only consider trading our second round pick if the parameters of a longterm contract for Jones are already in place. No chance I'm trading our second for a one year rental.

Which is exactly why the Cards did it. They are in "SB or bust" mode. They won't resign Jones.

I wouldn't do it unless he resigned here as well.

Meh. He'll be a free agent next year.

Chandler Jones is a beast. Good trade for both.

If Jones walks then the cards get a strong compensation pick. If he stays around pong term then he'd have earned his money in a contract year.

Reports are that the Jags were in the mix for Jones.

Good. Good job, guys.

Everything is fine.

Yeah Im not ready for this team to be trading draft picks just yet. We are still in draft and develop mode. The Cardinals were one game away from the super bowl. That trade makes sense for them. We are in a position to acquire a starting caliber player in the second round to help us improve from 5-11. Lets get to the playoffs first for a few years before we start making the risky trades.

I wouldn't have minded them trading the second pick for Jones at all only because this isn't a good draft for pass rushers.

@neypd Also told four teams were in the mix for Chandler Jones. Haven't confirmed otherwise but told CLE Jax and GB were among interested teams.

Just to confirm highscore.

This is what would have happened. Except we would have acquired a proven starting caliber player.
