I would say Luke is the bigger disappointment. I have some hope that a quality FS option will help Cyp. I don't think Luke will get better.

I'm too lazy to look up stats because frankly, I don't really care, but I am willing to bet that historically, the average 33rd pick in draft is way more efficient than Cyprien.

They aren't pro bowlers... they aren't stars... They would still start on a lot of teams in this league and by no means are they busts.

The fact that we're having this discussion and the fact that you can make a good argument about either player is an indictment of Dave's first draft.

 

In 1 years time, we may not have a single player from that draft on this roster.

I'm not quite sure we can call Cyprien a bust yet. He does have over 100 tackles in every season (not sure that's too good for a Safety. Is it better for a SS to have like 85 tackles?)

Those tackles are meaningless. Someone has to get the stop, doesn't mean you did anything particularly good. He's also missed over 20 tackles last year alone.


He's just not very good.

His problem isn't just coverage. It's bad

Angles and not making enough big plays.

Think about this. He probably has over 300 tackles in his career.. How many times did he knock the ball out? How many INTs? How many sacks? How many fumble recoveries?


Not nearly enough. He's a liability and needs to be upgraded. I hope Sample plays better and improves that position.

Please LT Luke Joeckel is the biggest fail, hands down.  He was taken 2nd overall in the 2013 NFL Draft and was the first pick of GM Dave Caldwell & HC Gus Bradley to be the elite anchor to the offensive line for over a decade... instead he got injured after they traded Monroe away to move Luke to his Left spot from right (where he had struggled) and was out the rest of the season after what like one game after the trade.  Then he failed in his 2nd year, and was even benched a few times in those last two years forcing them to sign Beachum & place him on the trade block in less than 3 years since they took him....

 

 

That was a huge mistake. 

 

I say they've both sucked equally but in different ways which makes sense due to their positions. I can't say either one of them have been solid and I don't see it changing. I never understand drafting a rookie and throwing him in straightaway. We all know college to NFL is a huge difference not to mention they have to learn the playbook, their position as it's played in the NFL as well as that particular team. They did right by Bortles and held out as long as they could before they put him in as the starter. Rookies haven't proven jack in the NFL and shouldn't play right away in my opinion. Not unless absolutely necessary.
