WELP: Norman

Quote:I gotta think this a smoke screen. Dave knows how much this fan base wants Norman, and he is trying not to look like the bad guy (he's still somewhat of a bad guy if doesn't break the bank to get Norman here). I think the Jags think their secondary is in great shape, minus a few additions from this draft. If you think that he didn't at least look into it then you're crazy. He never said there was an substantial interest. If he cared that much about the fans being upset he wouldn't have said they didn't go after Mack and Irvin in March. Those were both players that the fans really wanted. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:@ryanohalloran GM Caldwell says he thinks Norman would make #jaguars better, not significantly better. Money gap too far apart. At this rate we will never have our super bowl parade down International drive. Welp. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
What Dave said basically sums it up. He doesn't think Norman is worth that much money. I'm cool with that. #caseclosed
Onwards to Round 1 and Myles Jack!!!!!!!! GO JAGS!!
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
Quote:Like I said, cheap. And I'm not being negative. Just my observation. Wweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllppp
I follow Ryan O on twitter and I don't see the comment anywhere about Dave saying that Norman would make us better but not significantly better. Seems odd.......

Depending on how much we offered him, possibly. We didn't sign him so it speaks to the same issue as with Norman. They aren't worth how much they want (and yes I know part of the decision for Vernon was location, but also we don't know how much we offered).
GO JAGS!!

Quote:Its not being cheap. Its Dave being afraid of making that one move that could backfire on him. How you can't see that this is just a moronic statement just baffles me. ![]()
I personally think Dave is tired of swinging for the fences in FA and losing to bigger cities or organizations that will pay more. We made some splashes in FA, and he thinks it's enough. Saying that he is doing due diligence and is still having interest is just to keep himself from being questioned.

He's not going to just not attempt to sign someone based on a couple guys that didn't want to come here. That is silly. Plus he got arguably the number one free agent to come here this year and one of the top ones last year. As I said before there's no reason for him to lie about contacting his agent to at least roll the tires on the situation.

I don't doubt that he didn't have some sort of contact, but I don't think he was willing to "pursue" Norman and get into a bidding war with other teams. His interest was probably the equivalent of bringing 30 people in to Jax for interviews that won't even be considered. His interest was probably the equivalent of bringing 30 people in to Jax for interviews that won't even be considered. Not exactly a good analogy. They bring in all those people for multiple reasons. For one they never know if they will end up trading back or maybe someone falls to them in another round that they didn't expect. They must have information on a lot of players. Plus it's good scouting for the future of they become free agents. There's no reason for Dave to call Normans agent if he thought there was no chance to sign him. He didn't see willing to go too far but at least seeing the price shows there was interest. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Think about how often these expensive, high-profile free agents fail with their new teams. I say it's too risky.
