Leonard Floyd

Quote:Apparently he weighs 250 now. I don't know if he can hold that weight but he should be able to at 6 foot 6.
He probably won't ever be able to be that high unless the NFL weight room does a lot for him and he doesn't drop speed. His main elite trait is that speed he has, I don't want him to get away with that. 240-245 I think he could do, he was likely in the 230 range last year.

Quote:He needs to get bigger yes, but he does two things that we lack desperately, good in coverage and getting after the passer. He weighed in at 244 at the combine, which is right where Irvin was. If we can get him up to around 240+, I'd be perfectly fine with him. Floyd has ridiculous athleticism and speed, which is also what this defense lacks.

Yep he needs to be at least 240 playing those spots. Extremely good athlete but he is quite raw. McAlister is very similar to Lloyd but can be got in the 3rd/4th. Better pass rusher too.

There's a reason this guy is viewed as a top 10-15 guy and McAlister isn't. I like McAlister but let's not act like he's on same tier as Floyd as prospect.

Hence why he's in the 3rd or 4th. I think he's better value than Floyd and a better pass rusher too. I don't think Floyd is worth a top 10 pick.

To each their own.

I'd like Floyd if we trade back a few spots a lot.

I don't see Floyd at #5, but I can see GM Dave Caldwell trading back in the Top 10 and drafting him.. since many don't have him in their top 10 he probably figures it would be rather smart to do.

I don't know if they would plan on him playing SOLB or MLB though... I think it could be where he started at SOLB with the intention of moving to MLB when Poz either gets injured or retires.

Quote:He was playing inside linebacker...that isn't where he'll play in the NFL. That's not his game.

He is very solid in coverage and has ridiculous speed off the edge. He'd be a great fit in this scheme. Him being 230-235 in a scheme like this at OTTO/LEO would be just fine, and we need help in the coverage department from our LB's.
Might not be his game in the NFL, but in order to play the OTTO position in this scheme, he needs to be able to set a very physical edge in the run game. That's the OTTO's job, first and foremost. Coverage and pass rush ability are also part of the position, but it's edge setting in the run game first.

Having the ability to get to the QB on the inside is a good thing to have... imagine him at MLB & getting sacks...pushing with Marks & Jackson there too.... the edge being set by Fowler Jr. & Odrick..

The question is the quickest direction from point to point is a straight line...

Is he even in the 3rd/4th round? I was thinking more 6th/7th. I watch a lot of Gator games and can honestly say I can't remember one play made by McCallister. Not to mention he was kicked off the team at the end of the season.

I think once the top pass rushers get drafted like Floyd,Spence,Calhoun,Ngakoue and Correa get drafted teams will take a punt in him in the 4th. Has the size, length and some people think he has the best natural bend in the class. How bad is the off field stuff?

Talent wise, isn't Spence better than Floyd?

If Leonard Floyd can be our version of Leonard Little we take it lol (Little's pre-draft weight was 237)

If we go Floyd, I don't think it's at 5. I think we might have a tradeback scenario already established with a team looking to get one of the major players that IS going to be available at 5. I doubt we draft Floyd at 5; especially with the talent that will be there at 5.

GO JAGS!!

Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

"With the 5th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars, select, Leonard Floyd, Linebacker, University of Georgia"

Mayock, Michael Irvin, Mooch, Rich Eisen, and Faulk, jaws drop, look of disbelief, as Ramsey or Bosa or Mack still on the board.
