Bad tanking.... again
|
I had two friends in the game last night from Alaska who had never been to an NFL game before. They cheered, screamed, jumped up and down just like any Jaguar fan despite the fact they have nothing invested in this team. I can tell you, they were just as happy leaving that stadium as I.
When you leave that stadium after a good performance by your team you have a much better attitude towards the expenditure you just made. It was worth it. All the gameday experiences of parachuting mascots, laser lights, blasting music, et. al. compares nothing to a win. Top draft picks are nice to have but they come at a price I don't want to pay. That has never, nor will ever change. How often do you and Jesse Ventura correspond?
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:Why on earth do you think a team that intended to win football games would roll with Painter and Orlovsky as their QB? Yeah, instead of playing those Hall of Fame QBs that were available. Clear conspiracy, obvious to anyone.

It was definitely a great atmosphere inside the stadium and outside on the walk back to the car. I guess somebody forgot to tell everybody it was meaningless.

I want winners.

Your friends were only excited because they accepted some of the hush money promised to Gus to throw the season. They really didn't want the the Jags to win, but only put on an act for the fans. Everyone is watching you.

How do you walk into a locker room of 50 something men and tell them "alright guys... we're on a pretty good losing streak. We're tanking the season. We're gonna be good, but not good enough. Many of you will lose your jobs over this, including myself and some other coaches. There is no guarantee that you will have a job anywhere next season. But we've got to do this. For Bobby. For Teddy. For the future of other people. We can't be selfish here. We have to tank for Teddy."
Furthermore, IF something as ridiculous as that were to happen, how is that after Kubiak is fired he doesn't blow the whistle? "Bob told me we had to lose, we needed Teddy" How do players not come forward and say "these guys actually WANT us to play poorly to get a better QB" How do QBs like Keenum, Yates, and Schaub, all of whom could be unemployed next season or back ups at best NOT play their very hardest and best? To allow another player to be drafted and surely take their job? I suppose these men, including McNair himself, have no sense of pride? Brilliant TMD. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote: LOL, Keenum stinks. Thats the point. He doesn't have to "not try his hardest" for McNair to get his desired result. JUst leaving him in the starting lineup accomplishes McNair's goal. He's terribly ineffective QB. If they were really trying to win these last 3 games, they'd be starting Schaub who gives them at least a better chance to win.

Quote:It seemed like he was trying to win the game up until that INT. Maybe that was part of the plan. The way the Colts played in weeks 15 & 16 of 2011 when there was a cushion between them and the closest suitor for the number one pick is the same thing on a bigger scale. Helped to give the "appearance" that they were still trying to win. Yesterday, The Texans played "well enough to lose"....same thing smaller scale. You are hands down the most dedicated troll ever. What a maroon
Quote:If you look at who the tankers are, most of them wouldn't know they were at EverBank if you put them on the 50 yard line. They're not invested. They watch the games from afar on ther couch and think they know better how to run this team as they put on shirts with their name tags and hair nets to head out to work. They've lived the underachiever lifestyle for so long they don't know any different. Exactly!!! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! He's older and caves in the clutch moment. Maybe the team wants to finish out with Keenum to finish the season eval on him. (I.e. keep him on to compete next season, let him go, etc etc) Schaub's a goner period. Maybe they draft Teddy. Maybe Clowney. Maybe if they wait til round 2 for a QB they need to know if Keenum has some stuff in him. I mean.. he's definitely had them competitive in some games... keep in mind he is a young player. Only in his second year and only having 7 starts. He's done enough in most games to keep them in it, his best game was against KC. His first start, he completed 60% of his passes with a ypa of 10.8, they lost by one point. They've been close in all the games he has started and he hasn't really been as bad as say... Gabbert. Maybe, just maybe, the powers that be want to get a larger sample size on this kid than 7 games to make a choice on how to move forward with their franchise? You get enough heat on this board just for being you. Maybe you should let go of this "they are tanking" nonsense. Houston's once great D has given up 27+ points in 5 of his 7 starts. He's an undrafted 2nd year rookie essentially, that has flashed in some games while in others looked like an undrafted kid. I'm not saying he's great or even good. I'm saying most franchises don't give a kid a shot and then say "you suck" after 7 games and then put in the aging vet they know they are going to cut in the offseason. They want a good look at him, which finishing the season will give them 10 games. If he does enough it'll be him and Yates and a free agent (a la Cutler or Vick) or him and Yates and Teddy. Get over it.. we're not getting the number one pick. And it isn't because the Texans are tanking, it's because we're getting better

And you don't think the other players on the team would say something about leaving their best QB on the bench? You don't think Andre Johnson would say, "Why aren't we playing Matt Schaub?" What about the WRs who have incentives in their contract? You don't think they'd want to have the best QB playing? What about the coaching staff, who will almost all be let go at the end of the season when they hire a new coach? What about the gamblers, some of whom bet on Houston to win the division? And what about the NFL, you don't think they'd see through an obvious effort to lose games, and therefore further strain the credibility of the NFL as an honest sport? And what about all the local ambulance chasing lawyers, who would see an opportunity to file a huge class action lawsuit on behalf of the fans who bought season tickets? And what about the federal government, who could bring a fraud charge against Bob McNair? And what about free agents you'd like to hire in the offseason? You think they would come to a team that tried to lose the previous season?
Quote: We are getting better or at least Gus is doing a pretty good coaching job the past 5 weeks. But no...the Texans are getting the number one pick because they are tanking (at this point, anyway). Just like the Colts got their #1 pick and Luck because they tanked in 2011. You don't KNOW they're tanking anything. You have no idea what you're even talking about. Is it possible that they really just aren't that good? And that even Johnson isn't good enough to bail them out of poor coaching, quarterback play, and injuries to star players? Nahhhh, can't be it. You must be right. Which is why you've dodged every bit of the posts except to regurgitate the "tanking" crap. Professionals don't tank. And even if some wanted to, you couldn't possibly get 53 guys, a dozen coaches, and a whole front office on board without it coming out at some point. Your conspiracy theories are idiotic, at best.

Don't you people know anything? There are currently nine teams at 4-9 or worse. Eight of them are not the Jags. All eight of those teams are doing the smart thing and tanking, passing out all kinds of "severance bonuses", inserting key players and all that kind of stuff. Only the Jags are dumb and are actually not tanking. Here I thought some of you had some brains, jeesh.
