Santa Clara police threaten to stop working at Levi's Stadium

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2016/09/06/santa-clara-police-union-talks-boycott-over-comments-by-49ers-quarterback-colin-kaepernick/'>http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2016/09/06/santa-clara-police-union-talks-boycott-over-comments-by-49ers-quarterback-colin-kaepernick/</a>

It's lame. But if it's on a voluntary basis... They have the option to forgo the assignment.

In this situation those cops that decide not to work over time aren't pigs, in my book.

I would equate it to a cop electing to not working a trump rally for over time because of their political view points.

They should have used the term Optional because they will still get paid and have the same rights as they do as a policeman on duty, but ultimately it is there decision whether they want to work that event.  Most usually do because that represents extra income which is needed due to the low wages of a police officer.  I side with the police on supporting any event or whether they want to defer that option.

Question:  Why does the title state they will "boycott" if indeed the services are "voluntary" as stated within the article.   Terrible journalism as usual.

So this same police department who is threatening to boycott policing Niner games is facing a federal civil rights lawsuit,

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

I would imagine there isn't to many departments in the country that don't have multiple lawsuits filed against them regularly.

Does not really have anything to do with police officers declining to work a event voluntarily on their time off.

Personally I think it's stupid for them to not make the extra wages over that clown but hey, maybe they really don't need the extra cash. Someone will.

Quote:Couple assumptions:  If the game is part of your assigned beat, boycotting is is basically saying that you are not going to do your job of pretecting and serving.  And it makes you a worthless cop that has no sense of the Constitution.  Thus a pig.

If, on the other hand, working the 49ers game is on a voluntary basis and the cops choose not to volunteer for overtime.. meh...  Whatever.  That's up to you.  I still think it's lame.  But it's your time.

That's fair right?  I'm sure you'll disagree.  But I think if you are required to work the beat as part of your assigned duties, and you decide that you are gonna boycott it because one person or even a minority of people within a venue is exercising thier constitutional rights, you were not a very good cop to begin with.

It's been established several times already that this is a voluntary thing for them, so there is no need for you to make an assumption on anything. I'm not sure why you keep trying to make this into something it's not, unless you have some strange kink with calling the police pigs.

Agree, but it kinda makes them look like hypocrites for calling out CK when they are facing a federal lawsuit about said thing he is protesting against.

I call them like I see them. In this case, I think there's wiggle room. And to me they have every right to choose not to volunteer. That does not make them pigs. But to me it shows how thin skinned these cops are.

Are the five officers named in the lawsuit part of the group that is protesting CK? If they aren't, then they are not hypocrites. Do you think you should be held responsible for what someone you work with does?

Yes, they should be held responsible as a collective group just like I am both at work and in the community.

And yet you keep bringing it up as if it has anything to do with this situation. Why?

Quote:So, to be clear......

They are going to refuse to do their job....

When a man or men exercise a right they willingly swore to protect.

When they're doing their job, then they're required to do it correctly. When it'd their off-time, then they aren't required to do the job they're sworn to do. I think you know this but would rather take the moment to throw in a nice jab.

Hey, you're sworn to a somewhat similar oath. Do you also voluntarily defend people on your off-time?

Quote:Bunch of babies, if you ask me.

Do your job.

It isn't their job.

So, basically, if it were a situation that wasn't this one, then they'd be pigs with "no sense of the Constitution"?

Now it's lame that these Officers don't use their off-time to volunteer for jobs? Tell me, how much of their time are you entitled to?

To be fair it's due to the news of increased sale due to people being whiny little babies.

Wonder if Colin is familiar with the true history of the Anthem?

It should also go noted that Gabbert is also donating his $15 proceed, resulting from his Jersey sale, back to the community.

So you're saying he's being charitable now because it made the news?

Do you think Baltimore Oriole fans know the history of the Anthem as they yell "O" upon the line "Oh, say can you see"

.... all in all, given the history and significance of our National Anthem, that's pretty disrespectful if you really think about the lives that were lost in winning that battle and subsequent wars fought for our freedom.
