Debate 9/26/16 - Trump vs Clinton

Quote:Are you implying Infrastructure should only be built from a specific tax pool? Not sure what you are getting at.

Infrastructure...., interstates, airports, bridges, then there's military.....all kept solvent with tax money. Mine, yours...but the guy who stumps on the subject claims intelligence by getting out of paying them

Hard to respect someone like that. Hey...get out of paying your share. Fine. Don't go around blaming others for the problems.

Reminds me of living on a private road. 85% of residents chipped in to maintain the road. I damn sure don't want to hear from the 15% that refuse to chip in on how bad the road is.

In your opinion, should parents who's children go to private school be exempt from paying the portion of property tax that goes to the public school system?

the analogy doesn't fit since he did indeed chip in and continues to do so.

but i admit the "im smart" comment was a bit much

his whole point was that the government squanders tax funds... that's 100% true. had he been complaining that people dont pay their fair share, then i could see the argument.

Yes, the comment wasn't a smart one to make but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using the laws of the land to reduce your tax bill. It's amazing how this country tries to penalize people for being successful.

Who decides what fair is anyway? Wouldn't fair technically be the same % across the entire board whether you make 30K or 3M?

Nothing to do with subject at hand....but should you have to pay taxes on road maintenance on one you never drive on?

What if you're against drone warfare? Can you not pay for military funding that goes towards that?

It's not a pick n choose.

Being a wealthy blowhard and saying how smart that is, is typical and one thing. But for someone wanting to set an example and lead this country....yes...a bit much.

i think American companies selling products in the US but manufacturing overseas, not repatriating profits over here would be "not paying fair share", but even if you consider all the funds estimated to be held overseas, it's only a small percentage of the total tax revenue collected.

i think the flat tax isn't a horrible idea.

I guess I didn't understand your comment about private roads. Of course you can't pick and choose where your tax dollar goes and you pretty much make a choice to live in a community with private roads, but I think there is a valid point to be made on private schooling.

nobody in their right mind offers to pay more in taxes than necessary. like he said, his responsibility as a business owner is to his family, company, employees, himself... i dont see that affecting how he will govern the country.

*yawn* Oh look, a copy/paste list that's filled with lies and half-truths, with the rest being unimportant.  I've come not to expect more from Trump shills though.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'll do it when you post something of substance that you actually came up with, instead of copying/pasting from facebook.  Otherwise, you're not really worth my time.

Brilliant!

You think she is different from him.

I know they are all the same.

What I don't want is someone who is willing to do stupid dangerous things, like having a private server with top secret [BLEEP] on it.

What I am willing to deal with is an idiot who says stupid things but does the right things for THIS country.

So I take the turd sandwich over the giant douche, or... is it the giant douche over the turd sandwich?

Quote:That's the arguement...  But this opens up the question about trump...  Why would he do anything as president to hurt his business' bottom line?  Based on your concession that he thinks of businesses first, it makes it very difficult to believe he would do anything to increase taxes on his own companies.

I understand the issue with Hillary and her ties with big business.  But to think that donald trump is the people's champion seems far fetched to me as well.  I think they wash out on this one.  Both are deeply flawed in this area.

Quote:You don't know, but this why it comes down to trust. Both have low trustworthiness ratings, but who do you trust more? Donald Trump said he would be totally out of his business, handing it completely over to his children (though it mostly in their hands to begin with). Hillary Clinton said she would deny foreign donations to the foundation and hand it over to Chelsea. Who do you believe?

For what it is worth, Hillary said similar things before she became Secretary of State, and she totally didn't follow through.

I agree that it comes down to trust in the candidates. For me, that is primarily evaluating both of the candidates' stated policies and seeing which is best for the country.

Starting with taxation, I see that Trump wants to get rid of the estate tax, keep capital gains the same, and cut corporate tax rates to 15%. Clinton wants to increse the top tax raite, increase capital gains on the wealthiest Americans, and Close capital gains loopholes as well as increasing short-term capital gains taxes. Call me old-school, but nothing here from Clinton seems out of line with the tax situation we had from say the 30's to the start of the 80's. In the 80's, we cut the top tax bracket, and by amazing coincidence, our debt also started to increase. Based on his plans, I see little reason to 'trust' Trump's proposals.

Also, I agree with the last opinion in the article Jaguar Warrior linked regarding Trump revealing his tax returns. While the other attorneys said they might advice their clients to keep their returns private, they did comment about the context of a presidential candidate revealing his/her tax returns. I certainly inferred that Trump either did not pay taxes or thought not paying taxes was the smart move. His prior comments indicate he has no intention of establishing a blind trust regarding his assets. It is my personal opinion that since the start of the 80's the interests of those with a great deal of money have disproportionately influenced our politics. From the links Jaguar Warrior has provided, it seems to me Trump is a continuation if not escalation of that trend.

That by no means indicates that I am in favor of all that Clinton says. I think that she is wrong in continuing ACA, although her public option might help. I like Trump's ideas about price transparency, and don't see her info expounding on that. I think she goes overboard with entitlements. Basically I see her as a pretty standard establishment Democrat, with a tougher take on income inequality. Trump I see as an extension of the dismantling of our societal infrastructure for the benefit of the wealthiest. I just don't see Trump as being anywhere near as fiscally conservative as Clinton.

Not sure how anyone can defend Trump on taxes when he follows it up by moaning that the US has 3rd World infrastructure and a huge debt.

It's a disgrace that a guy born into such wealth won't pay his fair share.

On the first one, Given Clinton's dealing with Congress vs. Trump's lack thereof, and the fact that probably about a gazillion people have at least misstated something to Congress, I will skip for now.

So let's start with the second one. Have any backing for this one? From 30 seconds of research, it looks like bull feces. If so, I will stop there until you edit your spew.

Quote:How is he stealing minutes when LESTER HOLT is the one asking follow up questions? He is GIVING Trump more speaking time when he does that (probably intentional to try and force a gaffe, but instead Trump just rambles and occupies time). He could have asked Hillary follow-up questions and chose not to, for obvious reasons.

Moderators just need to stay out. Give them a question and the candidates can fact-check each other. Stop trying to force the moderator into the debate.

Holt told Trump his two minutes expired. Trump completely ignored him and kept talking. At one point Holt said, "You have 10 seconds," and Trump talked a lot more than 10 seconds.
