All things hurricane Mathew

Lol guess not always hated anything official. Well now have a palm tree snapped. Trees down near me. Lots of branches down. Numerous fence panals blown down. It got pretty nasty. Palm was a washingtonian and was tall. I got work to do. Bummer. Everyone is safe so there is that.

Quote:All the people that die in Haiti any time anything happens, it's amazing in that anyone is left in that country at all!!Right? They lost 200K people in that earthquake several years back.
For anyone claiming TWC and other news outlets were exaggerating their storm predictions for ratings, imagine the outcry had they downplayed them and it turned out to be as bad as it was as it ripped through Haiti.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

The only reason it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be is because it turned a little. I can't believe people think this storm stuff is an exact science!!
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
I'm in Mandarin and we lost power around 11:00 am. I just moved into this house and it has a TON of land behind us with a supposed creek back there somewhere. Well as of today I have now spotted the creek and watched it completely engulf my backyard. Good thing my house is on a 3.5 foot price of slab. I checked my radar on my phone and it appears to have almost passed and I hope that means the rain stops.

I can't believe people think this storm stuff is an exact science!! And if the dice roll different and one of those storms slams head on, it's catastrophic. I'd rather know too much than not enough. Besides, I like the news coverage, nobody has to watch it, and a dark part of me wants to see something happen to Cantore. Nothing threatening life or limb, maybe just get blown down a street or something. Oh...on topic, I no longer live in Jacksonville but my sister in Murray Hill and cousin in Doctor's Inlet reported power outages from mid-afternoon that still persist.

I can't believe people think this storm stuff is an exact science!!Sometimes it hurts me a little to see someone talk about how they'd love to get paid to be wrong all the time. Seriously, spend a severe weather day in the field with meteorologists. It's almost impossible to predict what the storm right in front of you is going to do in half an hour, so why people expect that forecasts three days out will be 100% perfect every time is beyond me. Quote:And if the dice roll different and one of those storms slams head on, it's catastrophic. I'd rather know too much than not enough.See, here's my secret desire: The annoying guy who owns and drives the little red mini-tank and screams a lot can often be found in Oklahoma on high-risk tornado days. So can Cantore. My dream is that while Cantore is standing in the road talking about how we're all going to die, Reed Timmer blows past at 100mph (he drives that tank like an idiot, btw) and explodes Cantore. The Great Bald Ego is out of every profession his claws extend into, Timmer's in jail for a long time and the little red tank is off the road for good. Now that's just mean. I'm ok with him just being embarrassed. Still, I laughed.

This is exactly what happened with Charley. when it turned and it hit port Charlotte many took the media to the task for saying supposedly that a Tampa landfall was inevitable. While they said it was most likely, they put Port Charlotte under hurricane warning with at least 36 hours notice. Simply put, you just never know and if that storm is anywhere near you I always recommend preparing as if the worst will happen.

A hurricane is kind of like a Jags game, hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Quote:Crap, you guys are all still here. No matter how the hurricane situation turned out, my week was already good seeing we beat the clots.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

In watching both the local and national news reports there was genuine concern about the potential of major damage especially to the beaches. No one really wanted a repeat of Hurricane Sandy where people did not take the storm surge seriously and as a result 45 people died, so in this case I believe the "overreaction" was genuinely warranted.

My husband is working about 4 miles from where this happened. He said it's crazy over there. Flooding everywhere in Fayetteville. I am thankful we don't live there. He's having to stay over because of flooded roads. He prepared for it though so that's good. NWS was not predicting this much rain in our general area at all. And it's supposed to continue overnight.

Something to the tune of 6 inches in 1 hour.

A bunch of us are up here in Charlotte for the race. Got postponed until sunday at noon, but lots of damage along the way. 95 North is like an obstacle course.
