I think Fisher will be pursued hard by Texas too.

Jimbo just got a contract extension.

yea but Texas could offer the kind of cash to make him think about walking from that deal....having said that I don't see him leaving, for non monetary reasons.

Did you guys see Fisher crying after Winston won the Heisman last night? He looked like a proud papa. I doubt he leaves with Winston still having a year of eligibility left.

I think they will pursue Saban and Fisher but neither leaves. My money is on James Franklin or Mike Gundy.

This would be more realistic 5-10 years from now with Fisher winning multiple titles.

Yes he got FSU to a CG, but he has to win SOME to even be considered elite coaching material.

I realize Fisher got an extension. He could get double per year from Texas if they wanted to.

I would be very surprised if Fisher leaves FSU. I know Texas can outbid anybody but that doesn't mean they can get whatever coach they want. If Art Briles was younger, he'd be the perfect candidate. But being in his 60's, I doubt he is a serious candidate.

I think Dabo Swinney would be a good fit.

Jim Harbaugh is the latest favorite to get the job. It is rumored that he and the 49ers front office butt heads.

of all the rumored names for the job, none of them have won anything (minus saban but he's out). Jimbo is one of the few hot guys at the moment. Like i said though I don't think it's him.

Based on that definition, Mack Brown wasn't even close to elite when Texas hired him.

Neither was Saban when LSU hired him. Or Bowden when FSU hired him. Or Spurrier...

Exactly.

I think if Texas (or anyone) interviews James Franklin he will win the job.

I still can't believe Maryland passed him over to hire Edsall.

Hindsight is 20/20, but yeah, it doesn't look so hot now. At the time Edsall was the hottest guy in the country.

As a Vandy alum that follows it closely, I'll be surprised if Franklin leaves at this point.  He had a bunch of offers last year.  Arkansas basically offered him the moon.  Auburn reached out.  A bunch of what I would call top 30 programs reached out.  Nobody like Texas did but really good opportunities that have the chance for bigtime success.  And he turned them all down.

And then this year USC reached out to him.  It was all behind the scenes and plausible deniability running rampant, but he told them he wasnt interested.  Obviously USC has their own issues right now which could scare off potential coaches but if Franklin was looking to move to the big time, I'm not sure you could do much better than USC.  Maybe Texas is a different animal but I'd be surprised as this point.  I think whats more likely is he'll do something similar to Chris Peterson.  Stay 10 years, max out the program and then leave.  While money is a big attraction Franklin is already in the top half of the SEC in coaches salary.

An interesting note about Texas which doesnt get talked about a lot is while they have tons of money and nice facilities, they dont spend their money the same way bigtime SEC schools do.  There was that story recently about how Saban and Mack Brown were flying to some location for some kind of commercial... maybe ESPN commercial.  Well Saban got to fly in on one of Bama's private jets used for coaches.  Mack Brown got stuck on Southwest and the flight had a layover.  How does that happen at Texas?

Thats the whole point, Jimbo is a hot commodity right now, anyone can throw money at him. If he was intrigued by the Texas job he would have milked FSU out for more money.

Brown brought UNC football back to revelant status with bowl apperances, and top 25 finishes in the the few years before he left for Texas.

Yes he did, but that's not what you brought up elite.

Not reviving a program.
