Yahoo Reporting Mack Brown To Step Down

(This post was last modified: 12-10-2013, 04:14 PM by TravC59.)

That's what the university wanted. I wonder who they will go after. One of the best jobs in the country.

How reliable is this?

I ask because the school has a history of stories surrounding them that turn out to be not quite true.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if he was run out of there. They can't be happy with their team's performance over the past few seasons.

Reliable enough for Yahoo to run with it. They've been forcing the issue (UT) all season.

Not a huge surprise. Gotta think James Franklin is near the top of the candidate list. I know Saban will be mentioned but I am not sure he leaves Bama for a new job at his age.

enter nick saban.

id personally get a kick out of seeing saban go to texas and bama hiring mack brown, and then watching mack brown succeed.

also if the gators part ways with muschamp, id love to see mack brown wearing blue and orange.

Mack Brown says no, but it could just mean he wants to have a press conference where everybody hugs him and all that crap. Finebaum says him recruiting means nothing.

Anyway, Mack Brown says emphatically that he won't step down... uh, this will get interesting

Mack Brown isn't getting a job anywhere else. He's done.

Mack will probably get a ceremonial "administrative" role with the school and be put out to pasture.

I can see him ending up on TV somewhere.

I can hear Gator Nation calling for this hire now

The writing is on the wall but I do believe he should be allowed to step down at his own time versus being fired.  The man is a legend in that state and has done an incredible amount for that University.  He deserves the opportunity to step down and the time is coming.

It's Saban or bust for Texas.

Saban will jump ship, again.  Texas would be a great ship to jump to.  Personally I think he'd be pretty dumb to move, the man has it made at Bama.  Though he'd likely have it similar in Texas soon.

Mack Brown is refuting reports that he will step down.

One, or a couple of the powers that be at Texas may have floated this to the media hoping this would further help push him out the door. Only time will tell.

What is it about this school where most every "report" is true, then false, then kinda true but mostly false, then something else altogether?

This leads me to think that Trav has a point with his above statement.  Someone at Texas seems to be leaking this information out intentionally hoping it helps encourage Mack Brown to step down.  It's all speculation but that's what these flip flopping partially true stories lead me to believe.

Seems like Texas is throwing big bags of money at Saban. Multiple reports, while who knows how reliable they are, say that sabans wife has made several trips to Texas and appears to be house shopping. Don't take these seriously. I for one would be thrilled if Saban left the SEC. He just gets 5star after 5star to Bama

Quote:Gil Brandt of NFL.com tweets that he’s been told by a source that Saban currently is in negotiations with Alabama regarding a contract extension that would pay him in the range of $7 million per year.

Saban's wife also told fans that they were "absolutely not" leaving.  That also doesn't mean anything.  Saban has played this game before.
