I said he hasn't played great this year. The point is young QBs that become great take 5 years to become good. Peyton Manning threw 100 INTs in his first 5 years. He also had Edgerrin James and a top 5 running game to assist him.


Answer the question....."What do the Jags do well?" In terms of statistics......compared to the rest of the league? This team is SO far away from the playoffs it isn't even funny. Grabbing a new QB does nothing. Nothing changes until the Jags get a real head coach.

I looked on google, and there wasn't a stat that showed me how long his throwing motion is.

No. He wouldn't. He had Charlie Taafe at UCF and George O'Leary....they both cut down on the motion. However, they both put Bortles in an uptempo, shotgun, rollout pro style offense that played to Bortles strengths. This coaching staff is in 3rd and long nearly EVERY series. The WRs are getting zero separation and they have a league worst 3rd down % because they lead the NFL in 3rd down distance. It's common sense.


The Jags have the worst first down play calling in the NFL this year. They aren't even taking shots down the field. Bortles strength is rolling out and the deep ball. Where is the deep ball this year?


This is the worst coached NFL team I've ever seen. I honestly don't know how anyone could disagree.

I think the entire offense has been awful.


Yeldon isn't good. A Rob and Hurns are NEVER wide open. I watched Cooper and Crabtree and their separation skills are superior. The Jags best separation WR is clearly Marquise Lee.


Bortles has struggled but plenty of QBs have struggled and still made the playoffs because their team and coaching is good. Peyton last year, Brock Osweiler is way worse than Bortles but has an elite defense and good coach. Texans will make the playoffs.


Andrew Luck is an elite QB and he won't make the playoffs this year. His team is bad.


The point is, everyone on these message boards EXPECTS the Jags to be a playoff team but they do NOTHING well statistically. NOTHING.


It's all on coaching.

In 2015, Tom Brady 624 passing attempts with 58 passes over 20 yards

In 2015, Drew Brees 627 passing attempts with 68 passes over 20 yards

In 2015, Blake Bortles 606 passing attempts with 72 passes over 20 yards


I know many of you can't analyze statistics but you're telling me Bortles at age 23 doesn't have A LOT of talent?


This season is 100% on coaching staff


In 2016, Blake Bortles 236 passing attempts with 20 passes over 20 yards

The number would be 36.  Not 72.  50% means "half" BTW.  I didn't have an issue with his performance last year.  But he never excelled at throwing an accurate deep ball. 

 

I don't expect a miracle worker, but I don't expect him to came out in year three and look worse than year one.

We get it. Bortles led the NFL with 72 passes last year of more than 20 yards because HIS WRs bailed him out but NOW you blame Bortles season on Bortles instead of the non open, 16 drop WR tandem. Makes sense. I guess you can have it both ways when you're used to a 22% winning franchise.
