I am looking at a head to head game. It does not get any clearer then that. I do hate OSU, but that has nothing to do with this situation. If Penn State wins Saturday and is left out and Ohio State is in, it is a crap situation, no better then the BCS.

 

Penn State did what they had to on the field, period. Ohio State had their shot, and lost. That is football. Sadly though, it is not NCAA football where polls with human bias and opinion play into it ruining everything. If Ohio State makes it over Penn St., if they win, then the regular season means squat. Playing games and winning do not matter sometimes is what the message will be.

 

If you only care about HTH games, explain to me why Clemson is better than Pitt. Same exact thing.

I think Ohio State is better than Penn State, not Michigan. When did I say Ohio State is better than Michigan? Just pointing out the facts that are relevant to the CFP committee.

 

I find it interesting that people like criticizing me for being a Buckeyes homer, but say no such thing about Hail, the ultimate Michigan homer.

That is why head to head matters. That is why there are divisions, like it or not, that is another discussion.

I, for one, do not like these conference championship games at all.


If there weren't separate divisions in the conferences, then yeah, championship games with the legit top 2 teams would be good.


But, just as we saw from the SEC during some seasons, one side of the conference housed the best few teams in the conference. But, only one was allowed to play in it against the winner of a much weaker division.


Wisconsin lost head to head against both Michigan and Ohio State. But, here they are in the championship game.


Do away with conference championship games,, or do away with these ridiculous divisions.

1. Michigan

2. PSU

The CFP committee would have an easy time leaving Penn State out if it puts more emphasis on the strength of schedule, which obviously favors Ohio State, and who beat Michigan. Conference champions are favored, but that isn't required. As you pointed out, money is a big reason for the controversy over two teams from the same division getting in a four-team playoff. It is a good thing Alabama and Clemson don't have to worry about this issue in their conferences.

My thoughts exactly and to expand on that concept; 10 teams to a conference, everyone plays head to head.  Winner of each conference moves on.

Difficult to determine IMO.  All 3 teams are 1 and 1 in a round robin format.  Two of those teams lost an additional game compared to the 3rd team.  One of those two loss teams lost to two teams in their conference.  With all of that said I can't wait to see how this all shakes out.  Can you imagine the chaos should both Clemson and Washington both manage to lose?

Apologuze, I meant same division within the conference. If Pitt was, even with the Clemson win they wouldn't be in, just like Ohio state. Record in conference determines that. Head to head, in conference, once again, matters. What happens on the field, matters.


How does a head to head win not determine who is better? Why even play the games then????!!!!????

I am sure many agree. But as it sits now, you can't tweak it to make certain things fit.

Agree on 10 teams in each conference. One reason I prefer the NFL by far is it has eight four-team divisions that cannot be expanded or reduced.

So if strength of schedule is a factor, Ohio State gets in and Michigan stays home. I don't know how important SOS is this year but in the BCS era it mattered.
