Week 14 Games Of Interest

Quote:Yeah, I'm thinking that "IF" Penn State gets in, it'll be at the expense of Ohio State.

Ohio State is definitely VERY GOOD. BUt, I'd have no problem if they put Penn State in the playoffs instead.

Bama

Washington

Clemson

are all locks IMO

Why is Clemson a lock?  You don't think they could put OSU and PSU both in?  Washington, Bama and then those two?  I think there is an outside chance that could happen.

Quote:Why shouldn't Clemson be a lock? ACC Champions, one kick away from being undefeated, ranked in the top 5 all season, yep, that would be a lock.

Also one kick away from losing to N.C. State.

Isn't Clemson a 1-loss Conference Champion?

Yes, and Penn State is a two-loss conference champion. You always pick the team with fewer losses.

Clemson's in.

Not only do they only have 1 loss, but they are ALSO a Conference Champion.

That's a no-brainer to me.

Same thing with Washington.

That's why I think the decision should be either OSU or PSU.

You just hope they do so your beloved undeserving Buckeyes get in.

If they value conference champions like they "say" they do, then it should be Penn State.

Only haters say Ohio State is undeserving.

You don't put a two-loss team over a one-loss team that also is a conference champion.

So why should Penn State not be rewarded for doing something Ohio State didn't do?

If we're going by what the committee's criteria is, Penn State should be in over Ohio State if they truly value conference championships.

I seriously hope they leave Ohio out just so I can watch you whine about it.

The last line explains the first. You just want to believe Ohio State is not a playoff worthy team because of your extreme Buckeyes hatred.

Anybody who does not care about any Big Ten teams either way would tell you Ohio State should get in the playoffs.

No. No, that isn't true. Stop being thick.

Those with bias, and those who wear Buckeye tinted glasses, yes.

They didn't do what was needed to do on the field. Period.

Quote:After Penn State's performance tonight (and winning 9 in a row), PSU just might get in.
They deserve it. They did what they had to do on the field.

It's amazing how that concept gets constantly ignored by her.

Penn State is a good team. They've really played well lately. They are Conference Champions, and have beaten the Buckeyes.

They have a legit claim.

However, even though this Conference Champion has a legit claim, giving teams a playoff birth BECAUSE they are a conference champion is problematic.

Seriously, what if Florida somehow beat Bama yesterday in their championship game?

Bama would not have won their conference, and a 3-loss Florida would now get in the playoffs?

Uh,, no way.

On the flip side:

Going strictly by overall record is problematic too. Washington's out of conference schedule was absolutely ridiculous. If the committee puts a lot of stock in overall records, then schools are going to start going back to scheduling a bunch of SCRUB schools to play instead of big time matchups.

Why would teams like Ohio State and Oklahoma want to schedule each other with a strong potential for a loss,, when teams like Washington and Florida can schedule a bunch of scrubs and finish with a terrific overall record.

They really need to go to an 8 team format. That is enough to get legit Conference champions in the playoffs, and 2 or 3 of the other top teams at-large.

No more than 8 though, IMO. At 8 teams, records will be held down to about 2 losses at most. Once you get past 8, there are 3-loss teams littered throughout the bottom half of the top 20. 3-loss teams are too much,, and should not be in Championship playoff formats.

Oh yeah,

And what is up with Michigan only having 4 road games in the whole season?

How in the world does a team have 8 home games and 4 away games? That's bullcrap.

In fact, Michigan only played 3 games the whole season outside of their own state, and lost 2 of them.

That's a problem too.

Why in the world would any school want to schedule any out of conference road games when they can play the majority of the season at home, with a real advantage, and a real chance at making it to the playoffs that way?

Ridiculous.

They say they also want to put the four best teams in. PSU is not better than OSU.

I think the backup plan is playing in a championship game. Yes, Alabama lost, but it was in a championship game for their first loss so they wouldn't drop out.
