You can't fix a mechanical flaw in one off-season and apply it in a pressure situation. It is impossible. First you need to be able to do it throwing the ball in your back yard, then in practice, then in a game, then in a pressure scenario in a game. If you aren't monitored 100% of the time, you will slip back into old habits without even knowing it.


I have said all along, if BB5 was clearly working on his mechanics and throwing bad balls, that would be one thing, but he hasn't even started the process of fixing his throwing motion.


He is unfix-able at this point. I just hope they bring in an OC next year that will maximize his talents and minimize his mistakes.

Nothing is impossible. He hasn't even started the process of changing it. He has one more year before we decide if we will pick up his 5th year option. There is not enough time for him to fix his issues before the Jags have to make a huge financial decision.

Though I agree that the past is the past, data analysis is built upon projecting the future based on patterns found in the past. It is not a stretch to say that because Bortles has been careless with the football for the past three years that will not change by a large margin moving forward.

 

In fact, most people try to point to Farve's carelessness as an excuse to make it seem "okay" that Bortles is careless. The difference is that Farve is a risk taker with exceptional accuracy and Bortles is a risk taker with exceptional inaccuracy.

It's his opinion is all, and one that I share. For every QB that's been able to repair a bad throwing motion, there seems to be a lot more that couldn't do it. I've seen QBs with bad throwing motions play well, even Bortles has, but I can't remember the last time someone went from throwing like Leftwich to throwing like Marino. Especially not in one offseason.

I'll say it caught my attention in the offseason when he said he wasn't going to spend as much time with Tom House as he had the previous offseason. Especially because it was his mechanics that were the focus going into 2016 for Blake.


Now that doesn't prove anything about any kind of lack of effort, because we don't know what he was doing all offseason. I do think it would've helped for him to spend some more time with Tom in California than he did.

It's not impossible that I could win the powerball this weekend. But if I'm counting on it, it's most probably best to consider it a lost cause. Bortles is much more likely a lost cause than he is a franchise qb. Though I sure wish it wasn't so on both counts.
