Fowler Jr is a bust

Quote:Does that apply to bortles too?
It applies to every player, but Bortles showed much promise from year 1, to year 2 and regressed in year 3. Which one is the real Bortles? Jury is still out in my opinion and year 4 will be the telling year for him.

Was year 2 just a fluke? Is this season just the perfect storm? We'll find out next year.

Quote:It always seems to take a little bit longer for pass rushers to get adjusted at the NFL level and for good reason.

If you don't have elite bend (see Von Miller), or elite hands technique (see Joey Bosa as an example for a rookie), chances are very high that you're going to struggle and take a little extra time to adjust.

Bosa isn't a great athlete and doesn't have bend, but his hand technique has always been very, very good. If you can keep Offensive Linemen from getting their hands on you, you've already won 90% of the battle.

Hands technique is far and away Fowler's biggest issue right now. He relied on his speed and power to win in college. In the NFL it doesn't matter how fast, or strong you are if an OL-men gets his hands on you.

Saying Fowler hasn't shown anything is just wrong dude. While we'd all love to see him show more, since he is a high draft pick and since we've lacked any real pass rushing threat for a long time. He definitely has shown flashes rushing the QB. His run defense has also been a surprise and a positive that you can't over look.

He's definitely raw in his pass rushing moves and needs to spend a lot of time working on them in the off season.

In my opinion though, he must put most of his focus on his hands technique.

If he can learn to use his hands better and not consistently run his shoulder into OTs, I think he can be very successful in this league. He's going to have to put in a lot of work this off season on those hands though, because it's far and away the most glaring weakness of his.

If he can't bend, isn't a good technician, and isn't a freak athlete, why the hell did we pick him at #3?

It just looks like another Branch or Alualu pick. Oh he's a great run stopper. And we're just gonna wait for him to finally break out. Meanwhile he either sticks around as a marginal player that half the board defends for years as a "solid player" or he washes out of the league completely ala Harvey. Either way it's yet another huge waste of a high pick.

Bosa had a 6.89 3 cone, 120" broad jump, and 4.21 shuttle at 6'5" 269 lbs. He is an elite athlete, and he can absolutely bend.

Fowler had a 7.4 3 cone, 112" broad, and 4.32 shuttle being significantly smaller

Why was he rated as one of the top prospects and a sure fire top 5 pick by every expert, scout, etc etc?

Quote:Fowler's a bust. It doesn't take 3 years to figure out if a DE can get to the QB. Either you can rush the edge or you can't and he can't.

Hey, just for grins, how did Khalil Mack stack up his first year?

Same reason Derrick Harvey, Jamaal Anderson, Vernon Gholston, Courtney Brown, and Mike Mamula were rated high. Because the scouts get it wrong sometimes.

Eff Caldwell for screwing our team with his dumb arrogant picks thinking he's smarter than everyone.

Always with half told numbers. If you really want to be blunt, every single player in the NFL is an elite athlete. They would never be at that level if they weren't. They aren't your typical humans.

Bosa wins with hands, strength and hustle. He doesn't bend around the edge to win. You being a so called film/scouting expert should know this from all that film study dude.

You pray every night for Fowler to fail regardless and will use any half told stats you possibly can to discredit and hope he fails in every way possible.

He did indeed. 54 tackles, 4 sacks.

Caldwell passed on Ansah, Mack, and Beasley in consecutive years and gave us Fowler. Screw him.

Actually I want to hold out judgment on Fowler and everybody else until next year.  I think most of these guys are going to look a lot better playing under a real coaching staff.

It does feel like he takes great joy in Fowler's troubles.

So why call him a bust then? I agree with your statement here. That premature bust stuff is KY and Jerrad's shtick.

Because he can run a fast 40 and went to UF.  UF puts out some great players, but there are a lot of players that get overhyped from there that I have no answer for as to why.  Being a UF fan, I thought it was pretty obvious that he was a scheme player and couldn't win the 1v1's even in college.  He's a good player that got overdrafted by a round or two.  He's Tyson Alualu.

We keep drafting raw players and are arrogant enough to think we are going to develop them into something they are not.  Even Ramsey this year.  He's a very good player, but he has never been a ballhawk.

He dude sucks big time but yeah I can give him another year.

It's cute how you think you can take 10 seconds to google a stat line and think you evaluated a player.

Everyone knows Mack had a great rookie season.

Absolutely, it's almost like a slight JDub (not really, but a little bit).

I feel he spends most of his time watching the Falcons (for his man crush Beasley) instead of the Jags, just like JDub does with the Packers and Broncos.

Except KY actually does have knowledge of the game and I do respect most of his opinions. Even though he has a dumb and obvious bias against Fowler for whatever stupid reason.
