Yes, saying a kid who made a major mistake doesn't deserve a second chance at playing football means that we are ok with violence against women....look at how smart you are!  You got us!

Don't try to call out people for using the same old tired arguments and then pull the [BAD WORD REMOVED] at how you are just against violence against women, insinuating we are somehow ok with it.

Fyi, nobody here really cares about your opinion...nobody is "hot" over it.  Your just another [BLEEP] on a message board.

Quote:Oooh... you're so cool.

Retreading the same tired remarks I already shot down. No one claimed to be perfect, feel free to quote where I said anything where I put myself on a pedestal.

I love when people get so hot over my opinion.

How else can I affect your life today?

I can almost envision the steam coming out of your ears lol

I hope your kids grow up to be punks that hit women in bars. And you can coddle them and tell them it is OK and it isn't their fault.

And hopefully you get the full effect.

Personally I hope the kid does have a turn around. I'd actually hate to hear about him getting in trouble again. But I'd love to see Kiffin fail he's a turd of the highest degree.
No one got hot over your opinion. Simply responding to it, like you are to the others opinions as well.

I don't really have any skin in this game / argument, but this does relate to a book I just read, Chasing Perfection by Bob LaDouceur. For those that aren't aware, he holds the record for the longest winning streak in High School football at 151 wins and racked up a total of 399 wins as a Head Coach.

In his book, LaDouceur talked about the behavior expectations for his players. No player was allowed to have anything to do with alcohol. Period. He wouldn't even entertain situations such as "well, I was at a party where there was drinking, but I didn't drink myself". There were consequences even then.

Now! this isn't to say that he immediately booted the player off of the team, he actually rarely cut players but there were consequences including reduced playing time in the form of missing entire games immediately as soon as the infraction was discovered. This also isn't to say that this example translates directly to college aged players either. 18 year olds are adults and get to make adult decisions, but then again there are several coaches out there that maintain behavioral rules for their players.

I don't think it's out of a realm of reason to expect a player to keep himself out of questionable situations. These aren't unforgivable sins, but I'm okay with a program or institution having negative consequences for players putting themselves into a bad spot. If you don't, how else will they learn?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I agree, and Florida State did the right thing.  They kicked him off the team and he was on a team that nobody heard of for 2 years.  Instead of possibly being the FSU starting quarterback (he was the frontrunner at that point amongst the freshman) he was booted out of school and sent packing to a juco school.

A school like FAU is a good landing spot for him.  Local kid, hope he does ok and bounces back from his huge mistake.  I guess that makes me a bad person.

I mean... maybe not sit in his dorm doing nothing.

But don't be in places where bad things happen to "good kids"

Nothing good happens after midnight.

I mean... how much life have you lived?

I've been 16, 18, 21, 30... The bar scene doesn't change. It's bad.

If I'm a coach. I don't want my kids in those situations. I don't care if you're old enough. Someone is going to put you in a position you don't want to be in.

If you're an NFL player... I don't want you going out during the season. And if you do you better not get in trouble, as a grown man the excuses aren't there anymore.

Go read. Be a better student. Study your game be a better player. Go visit with family and friends at the house. Go play video games with some buds.

Sorry. I won't be making excuses for these kids. That's how you get Justin Blackmons and Greg Hardys and Josh Gordons, Aaron Hernadez. Guys that just never get it right because they are always doing wrong and someone always gives them a second chance. And in most instances hurt others just as much as themselves.

But hey... hate me for being a meany poo poo head if you want.

You must be a blast to hang around.

These kids aren't just robots programmed to play football. They're college students too. I don't know if you've noticed or not, but college students go out to bars.

They're allowed to go out and have fun too. That's the least they should be allowed to do for having to sacrifice as much as they do because of football.

i agree with all of this and the sentiment that people deserve second chances.

hitting the woman was deplorable. he paid for it. hopefully he learned his lesson and now he gets his shot. if it happens again, no one is going to be giving him any kind of chances or breaks.

plenty of people make mistakes and learn from them to better themselves, but unless people are given second chances, there would be no measure of redemption.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Good stuff there. I am totally fine with consequences for actions put on by the school, team, etc. Johnson has been through a lot because of it on and off of the field. And you are right, how else will they learn.

Snarky passive aggressive comments say otherwise.

Nah, I'm a grumpy old man.

College students probably shouldn't go out to bars. But apparently that is an unpopular opinion here.

They are allowed to go out.

I am saying it would be my preference (and rules as a coach) that they didn't.

Right, wrong, or indifferent. It is how I think about it.
