Perry Fewell hired as DB coach

Quote:It seems people on this board will always find something to gripe about.

What you're seeing is it makes Marrone's job easier (not that it is easy) to build staff based on

his reputation (remember when JDR and gus had a hard time attracting quality coaching staff) and the fact that

Couglin is on board as Vice President of Football operations.

Don't you want Tom to make Doug aware of some guys that are willing to jump ship and join this staff?

Do you think they would be available if Tom wasn't here.

Comon'....you can't have it both ways. Quit looking for a bogeyman in everything tom, Doug and Dave do,

Just relax and watch it all unfold!

Or would you rather have gus back. :yucky:

Amen.

For what it's worth i'm loving these hires. Proven coaches at key positions of need.

This, makes sense.

Also makes sense that the consulting firm was hired in case they could not land Coughlin, but wouldn't be wasted even if they were to bring him in.

It just looks like Tom is now making all the selections with Dave simply signing the contracts.

Going from a DB coach that has historically struggled to create turnovers to one that was constantly highly ranked.

Wasn't he the DB coach here when we only have up like 15 passing TDS in a season?

Tom is building this team. Marrone will Coach. Marrone is here because of Tom. Marrone will approve of any decision Tom makes. And this is the way I like it.

Dave wasn't ever tasked with hiring assistant coaches and coordinators. That's traditionally been the head coach's duty with the GM signing off.

I just hope Coughlin isn't railroading Marrone in every aspect.

Thus far, it's hard to complain about any of the moves, but I'd hate to see Marrone's intent for the team hampered by Coughlin's stubbornness.

Didn't Coughlin say something about having too much respect for the head coach position to interfere with Marrone, at the press conference?

I'm sure he does and vise versa

Like the hires. But as others have said, it seems like these hires are coming from Coughlin. Which isn't a bad thing. But if a coach doesn't want micromanagement this could cause tension with Marrone. Of course if all this gets us to the playoffs this year I don't think Marrone will care.

The fact some of you are taking issue with TC taking over makes me love it even more. Too many were on the Gus bus for too long. Its about damn time someone took control around here. The fact it's a 2 X Super bowl winning coach leading the way is a miracle in my eyes.

These coaches aren't getting forced on Marrone. Hell, Mike Kaye just tweeted about it...

That's good to read.

I didn't recall that bit from Thursday.

I like these hires, but yes, it did make me wonder if Marrone was getting steamrolled a bit on hiring his own staff.

As long as Marrone is on board with these guys and can forge a good working relationship with them, I absolutely think they are good hires.  I know DeCamillis and Fewell have done good work.  Based upon what I've seen of Flaherty, he's legit too.

I have similar concerns.

Why do people think DeCamillis was a Tom Coughlin hire? Just curious.

I don't see a single tie to him looking at where he's coached. Are we just assuming it was Tom because he's known as one of the best in the game at his job or what? lol. Marrone has been around a while and has a pretty solid tie to some guys too...

Joe D is likely here because we had a need, he's a top tier coach at the spot so we reached out, and he has a house here so would make sense.

So far it's just Fewell and the OL coach with ties to TC, and both of them are highly regarded. I don't think Marrone is going to be against interviewing them/hiring them.

My concern has zero to do with Gus Bradley.

It has everything to do with never seeing things done this way before.

I have seen GMs and owners insist that head coaches fire some assistants as a condition for continued employment, and that rarely ends well.

But I can't recall any instances where an owner or a GM would hire assistant coaches for a newly hired head coach.  Usually the head coach chooses his assistants.

I never said it was. I wasn't talking as if reporters are saying this, I was saying people on here need to relax and that Tom isn't doing that.
