So for you conservatives, is Jerry Falwell Jr okay for higher education?

It wasnt about science. It was about publishing papers and the people involved in the science. You can here it from their own mouths what they believe and what will get published/won't get published.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Yet you probably swoon for non-scientist Bill Nye.

Typical hypocrite.

So why the beef with Liberty University but not BYU, Notre Dame, Mercer, TCU, etc? All these Christian schools that do the same things. Why just pick on Liberty University? Because Fallwell Jr. supported Trump? Got it.

FYI, Liberty University has the same accreditation as these school.

Quote:Then why havent bacteria turned into something greater by now? They have had billions of generations since people were paying attention in the last 50 years. Ecoli replicates every 20 minutes. Why hasnt it evolved into another species? All its done is gain new immunity to drugs. Thinking minds want to know...

You have a very poor understanding of evolution. Why haven't bacteria turned into something greater? What does that even mean? There is more bacterial biomass on this planet than all the combined biomass of all the "higher" order lifeforms that have ever existed on this planet. There are more than 100x more bacteria cells in your own body than human cells. Bacteria live and have been discovered essentially everywhere. They've been on this planet orders of magnitude longer than humans which have only existed somewhere in the realm of 1 million years. Bacteria are one of the most successful domains in Earth's 4.6 BYA history. They can resist extremes of pressure, temperature, radiation, chemicals, metals....and long after humanity destroys itself they will still be here. They don't need to evolve into larger more complex lifeforms. The way their genetic mechanisms work (vertical and horizontal gene transfer) and their reproduction operates ensures they will continue being extremely successful.

In terms of E. Coli there are other serotypes which are essentially subspecies. Salmonella enterica has like 10 or more serotypes.

Lol at the Google trained "scientist."

You can't make up evolution to fit whatever you want it to mean.  Scientists have been trying forever to force fit a missing link, and yet it's still missing.  Missing for a reason.

Science, for all we know, which isn't very much in the all that is to know, can't even fully explain how aspirin works.

There are real "scientists" who continue to study things that have already been proven false, like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster.  My college chemistry professor was one who chased Nessy.  Was one of his life passions.

Those behind false agendas know that no one will do anything unless motivated to do so.  Unless the public is properly motivated (in the case of climate change, scared into action) they know their agenda will not advance.

Again, a lot of smart people have been duped.  It's OK to admit when you're wrong, especially since the agenda has been so aggressively shoved down the throats of talented people with aspiring young minds.

You're right. Single-celled organisms by and large have the capacity to live long enough and consume enough food to achieve mitosis and reproduction also through conjugation they have the ability to develop enough variation within species to adapt to the external environment pity for you that you cling to a theory based on the idea that it's some point they would need to develop multicellular and sexual reproduction to become more efficient life forms.

Again you have a poor understanding of evolution if you believe that.

Evolution is a theory.

To get back on topic, at least she's finally been confirmed and can get to work on fixing some of the problems with public education indoctrination.  I personally don't think that the federal government should be involved in education, but since it's probably never going away there is a next-best answer.

I would love to see a voucher system put into place that gives parents a real choice in where/how they get their children educated.

There is empirical evidence for evolution.

This is the story of the left. You point out the flaws in their logic and all they can do is name call.

Usually, The louder someone cries about macro-evutionary theory the led they can actually defend and discuss it.

In reality, we've tried chemicals radiation and the like. We still don't see the beneficial mutations needed to make it work. Conversely, the mutations we do see generally manifest themselves in the forms of cancer tumors and deformities.

Moreover we don't see the reproductive isolation around certain traits. The countries history shows that even under threat of death u can't breed out negative sorting behaviors.

Most people don't know the difference between the theory of evolution and the hypothesis of abiogenesis. If they did this conversation wouldn't be needed.

Most people never acknowledge the only reason we teach evolution in schools in the first place was because of a pathetic scientific hoax (piltdown man).

But if you point out the lack of evidence, or when someone (as above) contradicts THEIR OWN THEORY then they just cop out with WELL U JUST DONT UNDERSTAND!

Evolution is still a theory.  It's not a proven scientific fact.  A fact has a definitive answer, the theory of evolution does not.

Creationism is a theory.  There is empirical evidence that supports the theory, but it doesn't make if fact.

My hope is that the new Education Secretary will make it possible for future generations to learn both.

So is General Relativity and Special Relativity. So is Quantum Field Theory....being a theory doesn't mean what you think it means. The theories I have outlined above have received rigorous testing. So has evolutionary theory.

Creationism has no evidence backing it.

I'm never surprised at how much conservatives hate public education.  If they want to send their kids to private schools--they can.  Just don't expect to get government money for it.  I'm not sure why they're okay with this.  Government money going everywhere else.  Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and save up money to have your kids attend private schools.  Don't expect taxpayers to fund it.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

We are taxpayers genius. When I look at my property tax bill and self employment tax bill I'm not looking at anyone else's money. The idea that my wife and I should have a say in my kids education should be common sense. The idea that the state can charge me anyway for a service I choose not to use or have my kids be slaves to what some bureaucrat thinks is the best curriculum should be abhorent! But this is the bathroom mix up crowd were dealing with!
