So for you conservatives, is Jerry Falwell Jr okay for higher education?

Jerry Falwell Jr. is the president of Liberty University and one of America's most vocal evangelical Christian leaders. He's also the son of ultraconservative Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist and founder of the Moral Majority movement Jerry Falwell. Falwell the younger holds a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law as well as a BA in Religious Studies from the school he now governs. Given his pedigree, Falwell Jr's politics unsurprisingly skew far to the right.

What's more, although his university offers advanced science classes with fully stocked labs, its faculty "takes pride in teaching evolution alongside biblical creationism," according to the

Is Liberty a private university. They can teach the students that aliens came down to Earth and created dinosaurs and that Ryan Leaf was a better investment than Peyton Manning if they so choose. I wouldn't attend Liberty but they aren't receiving tax dollars so they can do as they wish.

If Falwell feels he can try to do the same in public schools, there will be lots of lawsuits in the future.

I think he's dangerous.  Not just because of pushing creationism in science, but because he wants less accountability in the accreditation system.   But obviously conservatives will like him, because they don't dislike anything Trump does. And they like anything that means less regulations.  Including getting rid of regulations that doesn't allow coal companies to pollute the waters...

Here's where Falwell says that he wants colleges to have more leeway with the accreditation system:

Of course you think he's dangerous.  Everything on the right must be silenced.  We get the schitck from the left.  We just don't agree opposition is to be snuffed, unlike the left.

How dare anyone have a mind of their own.

Why are you afraid of a viewpoint other than your own?

Why are you in favor of one voice, one view?

Why do would you prefer folks to be silenced, and afraid of people making up their own minds?

While his personal beliefs are a bit too conservative for me, I see nothing wrong with an experienced college level dean heading up a team to figure out where colleges are going wrong. Sounds like he is not too excited about colleges taking advantage of students via the student loan fiasco going on. Addressing accreditation is another plus. It is ridiculous how many different systems of accreditation exist and rarely crossover from degree plan to degree plan. Lastly, him wanting to address government interference in the school system is another plus. Once again you monkeys are screaming at the top of your lungs because it was a POTUS selection.

Plenty of duncecaps are produced by "proper" universities.  Our last two presidents, many of the previous administration, and on and on...

How about we are screaming because religion, especially preferential treatment to one religion, Christianity, has no place in science or politics. How about because we are fearful Falwell Jrs religiousity will infilitrate into government policy? Religion has no place in government, period.

These are the same people who want to do away with the Johnson Amendment.

I have no problem with Falwell running a private university on his own.  People can decide to attend it or not to.  But putting him on some sort of task force... and wanting to give more leeway for colleges and accreditation... just seems like a way to make it easier to scam kids with colleges like the University of Phoenix.

How about you're an idiot! His position is to lead a team to better education, not as Education Secretary! He promotes less government intrusion into the operation of universities and colleges. Dang man.

Or Trump University.

Doc how do you feel about students being able to take federal student loans at this private University? It's undeniable access to federal student loans at Liberty has greatly contributed to its swell in student population and hence financial success.

You currently have a choice of what college to attend. The problem is people think a degree equals a job. If you send your kid to a for-profit school, you are asking for an issue! Your statement reads as one big contradiction.

How is it not a proper university? It is well established, accredited and pretty selective. Seth Curry, Vince Redd, Megan Frazee, Rashad Jennings, etc Any of those ring a bell? There are some pretty well know politicians and lawyers as well, but you wouldn't know those.
