Jags finalizing a trade sending Julius Thomas for Albert

Quote:Looks like we're not trading Thomas.

Interesting........... I'm fine with giving up a 2018 7th rounder for him. That's nothing.

We aren't trading Thomas. We are sending a late round 2018 pick for Albert.

If this deal goes through, I believe both teams benefit. Thomas will do better back with Gase and the Jaguars running game will benefit, especially if they draft Fournette or someone else in the top 3 rounds. Left tackles can play well into their mid-30's, although Albert's injury history has to be a concern. It's o.k. if they draft a left tackle next season to eventually replace Albert and possibly start at right tackle to begin.

Actually, that "sooner" is likely to be "later" than next offseason at the earliest, which is pretty good deal in many ways

100 times better.   I was not ready to give up on Thomas.

Quote:Can you give me a list of pro bowl caliber tackles.  That are never injured?   A few games here and there?

Not a list, I don't have time, but just off the top of my head, Andrew Whitworth has only missed 2 games in the last 5 seasons. He's played every game, 4 of the last 5 seasons.

Then we better have a darn good backup LT waiting in the wings, because it's highly likely Albert misses some games this coming season. I don't want the garbage backups we have now. I want someone halfway reliable.

Is he available for trade?

Even though I'm not crazy about Thomas and his lack of effort last season, it would be better for the Jaguars to keep him and only part with a late round pick. I'd even part with a 5th or 6th rounder for Albert if necessary. The Jaguars can still trade Thomas for a mid-round pick if they are satisfied with Koyack, Sterling and Lewis for now. Thomas still has trade value as he is not old and had Bortles as his q.b. last season.

Joe Thomas hasn't missed a SNAP in his career.

THOMAS IS NOT BEING TRADED!   THE DEAL IS LT FOR DRAFT PICK PER MIAMI HERALD.

I think we will still shop Thomas, we may even accommodate him and send him to a team he wants to go to that may be interested in him, if we can swing him for a draft pick would be nice.

Nice !!!

essentially, we're giving up a late pick to ensure Albert doesn't hit the open market.

<p class="" style="font-size:26px;">My understanding is the Julius Thomas part of <a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Dolphins?src=hash'>#Dolphins</a>-<a class="" href='https://twitter.com/hashtag/Jags?src=hash'>#Jags</a> deal broke down (for now) over what his new MIA contract would be. Lot of time
