Good for him.  I'm not as down on Bortles as some around here but those mechanics last year and those ducks were really hard to watch.  

 

There's a long way to go to undo the trainwreck we saw last year but it sure would be a great story if he was able to fix things and get back to where he left off at the end of 2015.

I'm seriously pulling for the guy. I too, am not as down on him as some of the crew here.

 

Progress isn't a straight shot up. I'm hoping the guy just had a bad year and felt pressured to save Gus, while not having much veteran presence on the team. He certainly played better the final two games after things hit rock bottom.

 

I hope next hear he shreds things. We've all seen him play well at times and even make some remarkable throws.

All i can say is im damn glad he started his first year instead of sitting watching coverages and working on his throwing motion. It really paid off.

Unwilling to buy in to "but next year"?  The guy had a breakout season 18 months ago.  Did he have a bad season last year...yes.  Did he play for the worst head coach of all time, re-tread OC and pathetic offensive line...yes.  He deserves a year with a real coach and if he doesn't win you move on but he deserves a chance given the dumpster fire the organization threw him in for 3 years.

Let's not forget the running game was trash too.

Yes he threw for 35 TDs, but that was your "lightning in a bottle" scenario.  He has never completed over 60% over a season and his arm "tires" over the duration of a season because his mechanics revert and decay, When you throw a ball incorrectly for long enough it will wear your arm out(may even cause injury), causing less power behind your passes, less accuracy and your timing is off too. I have little faith in Bortles at this point, but if he can somehow unlearn his old mechanics and keep his footwork/arm in check for 16-20 games(probably more likely to win the lotto twice) he can be really good. Otherwise, just another project QB that busted out of the 1st round.

Yup. Bortles biggest problem is his INTs. But we knew from day one that he'd be a guy who throws a lot of INTs but also a lot of TDs. His rookie year is really making his overall number look worse bc he only threw what, 11tds but 17ints?


With a better run game he'll be able to throw less and in turn take less chances just to keep us in games.


Let's also remember, he's only been out there since what? Late January/beginning of Feb? He's only halfway done with his training out there this year.
