Personally, I don't expect much at all. Announcers at the Senior Bowl pointed out that he didn't do much all week and he wasn't even the best pass rusher on his own Illini team. In my opinion he was the worst selection we made. We could've had Dan Feeney for God's sake! We're so deep at DE right now, I wouldn't even be surprised if he didn't make the team.

We're deep at DE? This is news to me. We have Campbell on the strongside, and then Ngoukue and Fowler on the weakside. Who else?

I don't see him as an Alualu type at all. Aluala was much bigger and was a former DT. Smoot is like 6'3" 264 lbs. which is pretty average for a DE. Personally, I like UDFA Hunter Dimick a lot more than Smoot.

Hunter was described by one scout as the stiffest defensive end he's ever witnessed. He's got some impressive power to his game, but he's not better than Smoot. ...not by a longshot. Smoot's time will come.
