Any gun owner who commits a first time violent offense whether its a misdemeanor or felony automatically forfeits their right to own any gun of any kind. If a person who has never committed a offense begins taking medication that alters a person's mental state they automatically lose their gun rights.  Strengthen background checks to where a gun seller must provide the federal government all access to his inventory and view what he has sold to and to whom.

I'll address your first paragraph.

First off, you said that there "needs to be a federal ban on semi automatic assault weapons".  Why?  What is the definition of a "semi automatic assault weapon"?

Next you seem to "know" what every person needs a firearm for and how many they "need".  I'll let you in on a little secret...  I own more than 2 handguns, more than 2 rifles and more than 2 shotguns.  They aren't all for the purpose of protection and/or hunting.

Limiting the amount of ammo that a person can purchase and/or store does nothing but add more burden to law abiding citizens.  I buy my ammo in bulk because I shoot just about on a weekly basis.  I have no idea what you mean about "a S&W carries 9 clips" and I don't think that you do either.
