I think the larger point is that the defense sold out against the run and Bortles couldn’t beat it. The lambs were able to throw and run from their base. That is basic football just like you said about the numbers game. If you can’t run and throw from your base you can’t be a balanced offense. What’s more telling is that when we went to a pass formation they went to there base defenses 3-4. What does that means? 

That’s the larger point. If your qb can’t do it he just can’t do it. No amount of scheming will not change the fact he can’t hit an open receiver that’s being covered by a linebacker. Defenses are completely selling out against the run. They aren’t even concerned with the forward pass because we have number 5 back there.

Of course, nothing is fixing the passing game at this point of the season. Well, maybe the Westbrook that beat up on 3rd/4th stringers that aren't in the league anymore can immediately return and be gangbusters...but barring that miracle the passing game is what it is.

The point of the stacked boxes is that we could/should spread the field out more just using decoy WRs to force more DBs onto the field and in general away from the box. That would help the run game immensely.
