There is no guarantee Jags are able to snag a developmental QB to groom behind him in the draft. The free agent class next year includes, A Smith, Matt Ryan (not going to hit the market) and Tyrod. Bortles isn't going to make less than 19 mil in his next contract from the Jags.

What do you mean you aren't sure what Cousins is about to be paid? Stafford literally just signed for $27 million per year. Cousins and his agent have already said they're shooting for at least that and he's going to get it.

We got ARob this season who needs to get paid. Maybe they franchise tag him, but then he'll need to get paid next year. Then you can add Ramsey, who is likely going to be the highest paid CB. Then you can add Yannick Ngakoue, who you are leaving out and he's going to get a big pay day as well. Then add Myles Jack into the mix as well.

What about Fowler? We're going to let him walk? Maybe, but that opens up a hole. Then you add 1, or 2 of the big DL guys. Campbell, Jackson and Dareus. Are we just going to completely dump 1/3 of our DL? We just signed Church and we're already cutting him? Gipson isn't elite, but he isn't anywhere close to bad either. Who's going to replace them? Rookies? Maybe Wilson can fill in, but we haven't seen enough of him to really know.

Dump Parnell? After Linder, he is probably our best OL guy at the moment. Cam Robinson looks very promising, but he still has plenty to improve on. And that's not saying Parnell is great by any means, but the last thing this team needs to do is weaken an OL that needs multiple upgrades already.

You'd rather destroy our Defense, that we 100% know is really damn good, in hopes of paying a guy to play like Aaron Rodgers, when he isn't anywhere close to the level of QB that Rodgers is?

I know he is getting paid, but will it be close to what Stafford got or over $30 mil like some speculate.

I did forget about Yannick and to an extent Fowler, but no major pay raises on defense are due until 2020 with Fowler, Jack, and Yannick. That's plenty of time to get creative with the cap.

Releasing Ivory, Hurns, Nortman and Bortles opens up 52 in cap for Cousins and Robinson. Then you don't need to worry about extensions for two more years and you still have the core locked up for a super bowl run with a real quarterback and elite defense. 

Assuming Caldwell keeps up his really good drafting, then you have cheap guys on rookie contracts to replace the Church, Parnell, Dareus, etc and it won't be a huge downgrade.
