I don't see this as a betting on himself type of deal.  He took the additional guaranteed money that was presented to him ($7.5 mil).  If he was betting on himself, he would have told them to hold on to his option and he'd see them at the negotiating table next year.

This is not a deal that a guy that is confident that he is a franchise guy accepts. That doesn't mean that he can't gain that confidence moving forward though. He just basically gave the team 2 additional option years for $7.5 million.
