Blake Bortles Signs Extension through 2020

(This post was last modified: 02-24-2018, 08:16 PM by Jagzfanfromiowa.)

Blake has signed an extension through 2020 per the Florida Times Union.

I love the move because we're going to have a ton of money we're going to have to spend on many different positions. Hopefully when the numbers come out, this deal will afford us the chance to keep most of our young talent, i.e. Ramsy, Jack, Yannik, A-Rob, etc.

At least it's only 2 years. That's not long term, so it shouldn't effect us from drafting a QB at all. I honestly didn't think he'd accept a short term deal. I was afraid it was gonna be something like a 5-6 year deal. I'm fine with this.

Haven't seen the details but I'd imagine it's basically just 20 million this year (same as option) with 2019+2020 costing less than the franchise tag will.

Lets us cut him whenever after this season and having a better control on his cap hit than the tag.

Makes sense.

I am okay with this. Hope he takes a step and it was for less than 20 million a year.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Wouldn't it be 3? (2018, 2019, and 2020) Anyone have any guesses on how much money it is for?

That doesn't sound too bad, actually pretty good. I hope he earns those incentives (and hope one of them is completing 65% of passes lol!)

Would’ve been 19 million this year under the option.

Just run some basic math.

It’s not high at all. It’s  less than he would have made on his 5th year option.

If I was the Jags, we would be eating every dollar of that guaranteed money this year.

Good for Blake. And a deal friendly for the team as well. Win-Win
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I’m expecting this deal to lower his cap hit this year to give the jags some flexibility free agency (and ARob) wise. It’s still a short term deal which will give the Jags the advantage to move on from him if he doesn’t cut it. It also doesn’t rule out the jags drafting a QB, albeit probably not on the first day.

We are 28 million under, and if we aren't going for another QB, we don't need the cap this year. I hope they put all the gaurenteed money up front so we have a better cap in the future when we will actually need it to resign our defensive stars.
