Cousins?  You sign him for $30 million +, and you virtually guarantee the team would be a one-two year wonder, because you likely would not be able to re-sign much of the young nucleus that made the team successful.

McCarron, who was not able to beat out Andy Dalton, who is 0-4 in the playoffs? (Full disclosure:  I kicked around the idea of the team possibly going after McCarron as a low cost alternative to Cousins should the team decide to move on from Bortles)

Bradford, he who is made of glass?

Bridgewater, whose football career was in doubt due to a serious knee injury, who has scared away the Vikings from retaining him, even as a backup?

Brees, who is 39 and not leaving New Orleans, and would have been cost prohibitive if he were inclined to leave?

An as of now unnamed rookie QB?

Keep in mind, with the exception of Brees, none of the likely replacements for Bortles have won a single playoff game between them.  Bortles has won two.

My plan was to trade for the guy who already beat Belichick and Brady...

No not Eli...

Nick Foles.

A good choice, but even assuming the Eagles are willing to give him up this year-remember, Wentz blew out his knee really late last year and may not be fully ready to go until  late preseason or sometimes after the start of the regular season-what would you have to give up to get him?

FWIW Polian has said he wouldn't even consider trading Foles until someone offered two firsts and two seconds.

Even if the price wound up half of that, considering the Jaguars are picking at the bottom of each round, would that be enough to get him?  Consider the boatload of picks Cleveland and Buffalo currently have, and both are picking way ahead of us in the selection order.

What would you give up to get Foles?  Your ability to give Foles the help around him he needs would be hampered by the picks you'd have to surrender to get him, to say nothing of the salary he would command.

Also keep in mind, the only way to sensibly make a run at any of the veteran alternatives discussed above is to let Bortles walk.

What if you let Bortles walk but don't land any of the viable alternatives, for whatever reason?  Maybe you get Bortles back but have to pay more than you would have.  Maybe you end up downgrading the position.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
