The fact that this question is legitimately being asked suggests two things:
1. Trump was an idiot for listening to Mitch McConnell when McConnell convinced him not to nominate Amy Coney Barrett because she's "too controversial".
2. Whoever convinced Trump that Kavanaugh was the guy should be fired.

The longer Trump waits to yank Kavanaugh and nominate Barrett, the closer Democrats get to keeping this thing from happening before the midterms. If Trump nominates Barrett, he wins by either getting his justice or solidifying control of the Senate by forcing red-state Democrats to put a "no" to a qualified nominee on the record. If he leaves Kavanaugh in place, this thing drags out, he loses his justice, and red-state Democrat Senators don't have to vote "no" to a Trump nominee to keep that confirmation from happening.

Again, I am completely in favor of a Constitutional amendment that would force all judicial nominees to have their confirmation hearings performed in the current session.

Man, I gotta disagree with you firmly on this one. Kavanaugh backing down or Trump "pulling him" right now would be a death blow to the GOP and their base. Once this clown show creepy porn lawyer does his thing, it should completely de-legitimize this thing once for all in the court of public opinion.

As for Barrett, don't worry about her, she will replace RBG in a couple years.
