Aptly stated.  Nutrition is key for all athletes indeed, but this is simply going to require rest, and the plan designed by his physios to get the hamstring back to playing shape. 

Mild hammy strains last about a week. Moderate variety can linger for about 2 up to 6 weeks. Severe strains can take up to 10 weeks to fully heal, in an average person. Worst case scenario, as inferred, he could be fully good to go by 4th quarter, when real ball is played. It could be a blessing in disguise for the Jags, if they string enough Ws along the way. 

It is counter productive to speed the process only to get a setback, which just occurred. Considering the level of treatment he's been receiving, he'll be fine and should return in reasonable time.
