Steelers to trade Ben Rothlisberger? Per Charlie Campbell (Unsubstantial Rumor)

#14

Quote:He has shown signs of decline this past year. Slight, but still.....

As for the 38 years old comment, as mentioned before, not all QB even play to that age, McNabb was done (for all intents and purposes) by 35. As was Brunell.

You are one of these people that like to sit on their assets until they widdle away to nothing, rather than cashing in for some return value while you still can.

While Ben is still a good QB, theres a real good chance his best days are behind him.

He's not Manning. Few are. So lets not pretend that every QB is going to play at his level into their upper 30's.

The Steelers had a nice little push for the playoffs at the end of the year.  Why would you trade away a QB that you yourself call good still at the age of 31?  You know how hard it is to find a franchise QB capable of winning a superbowl.  They have one.  When you have a guy like that, you should play him until he retires basically or when he becomes the reason you're not winning.  No other team with pro bowl caliber, super bowl winning QBs trade their QBs.  It's just ridiculously stupid.

McNabb and Brunell relied on athleticism much more than Ben... when they lost their wheels, they lost their effectiveness.  Ben can play at this level for a while because he's not a scrambler... He can move in the pocket and can get away from pressure, but it's not because of pure speed and quickness.

He hasn't shown anything to indicate he isn't a QB worth building around.  So in that regard, absolutely I'm the type that would "sit on my assets" in Roethlisberger's case.

I'm open to trades... but trading your franchise QB for a 2nd round pick for example (or even a 1st round pick) is just [BLEEP].
