FWIW: Mike T Now A Houston Texan?
|
Here's what Frenette said about Mike T.. ( I think the same it true now with Shorts)
On the surface, that $18 million contract extension and $9 million in guaranteed money given to Jaguars wide receiver Mike Thomas looks a tad excessive. Because his rookie deal didn’t expire until after 2012, the Jaguars could have waited until the end of this season to assess his true value. Thomas is an ideal slot receiver, but he’s being asked to be a No. 1 because the Jaguars have obvious deficiencies at that position. For this team, wide receiver this year is becoming what the safety spot was last season. Because Thomas is being targeted for more passes than any other Jaguar, it’s understandable that the front office attaches considerable worth to his contributions. But if the Jaguars expect Thomas to give them a proper return on their investment, they had better draft a true No. 1 receiver such as Alshon Jeffery or Justin Blackmon next April. Or sign a quality unrestricted free agent to fill that role. Like many NFL teams, the Jaguars have a history of overpaying for players. Thomas needs a big-time receiver to complement him, which should also make it easier for him to justify that paycheck. …
