But you can bet your [BLEEP] in the QB room there was high five's going around after that Denver game. Minshew made some throws and plays that are not common. Between the TD pass to Armstead, the TD pass that was nullified to Chark and the play where the ball bounced off the turf and he picked it up and still made a positive out of it?
That's just good head's up football for a 6th RD pick going into just his 3rd official start. Especially behind this offensive line. He's not waiting around with his passes neither. He makes decisions quickly and has the confidence in himself to make that throw happen quickly. It's early. But if he can pull another good performance out of his hat against the Panthers it's just going to further cement his footing here in Jacksonville.
Don't forget the play where he escaped the sack, rolled to his right, and found Keelan Cole for a first down. It's interesting to watch the all-22 view of that play. Cole was coming from a LOOOONG way away but Minshew saw he was outrunning his guy, and nailed him right in the chest. He picked exactly the right guy to throw to, and it wasn't the one closest to him.
That's another good play. He really did make quite a few throws in that game that we haven't seen here in a long, long time. It's his release and quickness with his decisions though that give me a lot of hope as a fan. Especially on his out routes. He was putting those on the money for the most part. He seems to really like Westbrook in those situations.
Another throw too that could have been huge was the one to Conley on their first or second series. They were backed up inside the 10 I believe and Conley either didn't expect that pass or he got lost with the sun hitting him in the face. But I remember the commentator in particular (Fouts I think?) saying had Conley kept running through that route it's probably a 90+ yard TD reception. It was a great throw.
Carolina is going to be a test defensively though. They're the NFL's 4th ranked defense overall. Number one against the pass. But twenty-fourth against the run. This is a game where I would rather see Fournette and Armstead chip away at their front seven and then see Minshew get some big chunk plays downfield with the play action game for sure. We'll see. Haven't been this excited over a match-up since Pittsburgh of last year.
