I am sure you would agree it is much better than a word that starts with n and ends with r.

Just to add to this. "Indians" call themselves Native Americans because they arnt Indians. Indians are people from India. Columbus thought he sailed to India and (mistakenly)called the natives Indians and they name just stuck. Its not so much a "pride thing" more so then simply wanting to be correctly identified.
