If the Bengals make the playoffs in 2014 and Andy Dalton has a similar performance as his first 3 playoff game appearances, with the Bengals losing again, I think they have to make it a priority to make a major move at the QB position in 2015. Whether that's drafting a QB in the first 2 rounds or making a trade for a QB,   they won't be able to stay on course with Andy Dalton. Let alone sign him to a lucrative contract extension.

Unless Dalton is a major factor in helping the team go deep into the playoffs, they would be making a mistake paying him anything close to what Jay Cutler is going to get from the Bears. Under the scenario that Dalton doesn't take a major step or more forward, the only way he should be re-signed is under the Bengals terms.

Trust me I hope the Bengals are smart about it, because it's painfully obvious they have a super bowl caliber roster if it wasn't for Dalton holding them back. Unfortunately, recent history shows us that teams are completely paranoid about giving up on a 'franchise' QB and will give them mega contracts rivaling the Manning/Brees/Brady/Rodgers tier, a la Cutler, Stafford, Romo, Rivers all having cap restricting deals. I expect Dalton to be the next, but I hope the Bengals are smarter than the others.
