The player who made history at Super Bowl 48
|
Lost in the argument about the importance of a second black starting quarterback winning the Super Bowl is this fact: For the first time in NFL history a deaf player had a chance to win it. His name is Derrick Coleman and he wears #40. Now, the first deaf offensive player in NFL history is getting a Super Bowl ring. Congratulations, Derrick.
This is not the guy who waited until the third round to get picked because he is short. This is the guy who was not even drafted because he can't hear, got cut after three preseason games, and went from one practice squad to another before finally being put on Seattle's active roster. That is impressive by itself but even more so for a guy who needed an MRI to gain clearance to play football because he is legally deaf. I don't understand why nobody else seems to care about this. If you don't think this is a major accomplishment worthy of praise, something is wrong with you. http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/sto...ck-coleman We show less advertisements to registered users.
