I'm no Wash fan, but there is some merit to the argument, unfortunately. 
How many different ways can you explain to your interior linemen and linebackers not to cheat out of position due to pre-snap motion and misdirection?  You could literally see Wash on the sideline chewing these players out for doing this at times. Combine that with the injury loss of your best interior lineman, and eventually all of your linebackers, and it's no mystery at all why Wash has dodged enough blame to stick around.

You'd think that would just illustrate to the HC how poor of a teacher he is

I don't disagree, but sometimes bad execution is just bad execution on the player's behalf.  

I think we all agree at this point that a significant portion of this issue should point toward the coordinator's shortcomings.
Somehow, Marrone doesn't see it that way.
