He's trying to get 90-100 million with 50-60 mil guaranteed.
He isn't worried about that 30. (which, btw, was only rumor -  we don't know what was offered)

He should be worried about it.  If he sits out this year, that's two years of earnings he will never get back.  For as big as Frank Clark's deal was, it was only "guaranteed" at around $60M.  And that full $60M was only guaranteed if he was on the roster by certain dates.  Basically he signed at most a 4 year deal and possibly 3 if his play falls off the next year or two.

Without knowing exactly what the Jags offered it's hard to compare.  All we know is the the base of $19M compared to what Yan wanted at $22M.  But the more important part is the upfront signing bonus and the guaranteed annual bases if there were any.  It seems likely however that if Yan had signed the deal last year, by the end of the 2020 season, he'd be at $40M or so with the signing, base of $19M and various bonuses.  Current state however, if he doesnt want to play for the Jags and decides to sit out if tagged, instead of $40M he'll have made around $2M.  And will be waiting for some team to offer him the huge deal he wants which may or may not happen and he'll need to make up that $38M somewhere.  Rumors were the Jags offered a shorter term deal.  Lets say ultimately he would have made $60M over 3 years.  At the end of 2021, it's likely he'd be going into free agency with $60M in his pocket and the ability to cash a 3rd contract as he'd still only be 26 or so.  Instead he now may need to wait until the end of the 2020 season to get his first big contract.

Saying all that I'd be stunned if he sat out once we tag him.  He'd be insane to give away another year's worth of top end salary.

Anyways again this whole thing seems crazy from both sides.  Yan may ultimately regret the decisions he has made potentially losing out on boatload of cash and the Jags may end up losing a player they really like.  And it's very possible there was a reasonable compromise somewhere in the middle.
