Being a coach in his own right, Coach Schmoe would not take a GA gig. I run an entire department at a small organization, I would not trade it to go work in the mail room at GE.

 

A better example is Charlie Strong who started from Central Arkansas as a player and 18 years later is the head coach of a Top 3 program. That's the route the vast majority of head coaches take.
