Supposedly, a child porn investigator within the FBI is handling a portion of the investigation.

The feds don't play around with child porn.  The arrests are immediate.  If they had a reliable chain of custody for that hard drive, and there was child porn on it, arrests would have been made long ago.

They have no idea who added what data to it. 
Either way, it's a weaker story than you think.
