It would not have been necessary to interview Freirmuth since Tyler Bowen already knows him better than anybody.

That's a good point that Bowen already knows him well which largely eliminates the need for an interview.  I also don't read too much into interviews or non-interviews.  They are sometimes smoke screens.  Sometimes teams purposely don't talk to a player they are targeting so that other teams won't trade ahead of them and take the player.
