I'd argue that Super Bowl winning teams in recent years with known above-average defenses had All-Pro level CB/S play. They just got it at discount rate. Like Pats with Talib, Pats with Gilmore, Seahawks with Legion of Boom on rookie deals, that Denver team with Harris early in his career, etc. Though if your team is more offense-centric like the Chiefs or Miracle Eagles run, then elite CB is not a requirement.

So basically, yes if you have to pay market rate for elite CB play, it won't be worth it. But if you can get it off rookie deal or players who were miscast on other teams, then it is a great investment.

What I also noticed about those teams are the QB. This is a QB driven league. If you got a good one then you can make moves good or bad and still be good.
