One way the media is manipulated

Bernie Sanders is actually a centrist and most of the country agrees with his policy positions. The media, on the other hand, is heavily slanted to the conservative (big business, no taxes) side, which shouldn't be surprising considering everyone you'll see on mainstream national news programming is a millionaire or on their way to being one. The country has pretty much always been where it is right now. We just have a lot of people who are very confused about what anything means. Is socialism your boogie man? Have you never seen the photos of republican voters with the signs that say things about keeping the government out of their social security and Medicare? Americans love socialism when they think it benefits them, they just don't like it when they think they're already doing badly and it's designed to help someone else, instead. Many Americans are even confused about how much taxes they even pay (a significant number of people pay no federal income tax at all). Do you know what the most popular legislation of the last ten years is? The covid-19 rescue package from a few months ago. Know what one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation of the last ten years was? Trump's big tax cut for the wealthy and big business. People actually want the government to do things that they want to have done for them, they just often disagree about the what they want part. |
