One way the media is manipulated

Thought this was a great segment on Rising. Keep in mind, this is a progressive platform. They were big Bernie supporters. They just don't hate America and seemingly stick to the facts. For those of  you that can't waste 5 minutes of your day, the gist is that private interests, be it corporations or individuals, hire spies to collect information that is unverifiable and feed it to the media to create cover for their actions.

You think rising is a progressive show? Bernie Sanders is actually a centrist and most of the country agrees with his policy positions. The media, on the other hand, is heavily slanted to the conservative (big business, no taxes) side, which shouldn't be surprising considering everyone you'll see on mainstream national news programming is a millionaire or on their way to being one.

You don't know what you're talking about.

I will admit that I am using progressive in a different way than I normally do. There is the way that it was designed to be used, of which I feel like The Rising hits it pretty much on the head, and there's the way it's being actively used, which is Marxism dressed up in progressive clothing. I guess if I had to make a differentiation, I would call the Rising moderate progressives. They want change in the form of socialized programs in America, but without dismantling the Constitution or implementing critical theory to do so. Radical progressives want to see it all dismantled.

I guess you could call Bernie a centrist if you had communism on the far left and social democrats on the far right. But that would be stupid to think of American politics in that manner.

That's six out of seven major policy positions that have greater than 50% support.

Your fake poll is missing the sampling breakdown. If you read look closely, it says "based on 1000 deadbeats living in their parents basement collecting $900 a week in unemployment benefits".

You don't have to believe me, but Florida passed the $15/hr minimum wage last year. Believe it or not, but Bernie is the guy that has the policies most people actually want.

They sound good on the surface .... no one has any clue how to pay for them. I think more people would get behind conservative views if they understand keeping your own money and having control over your own life instead of the government providing everything.

Too many RINOs though who want the uniparty.

So you're saying this country has moved so far left that socialism is now a centrist political position?

PS  Bernie is a millionaire too.

The country has pretty much always been where it is right now. We just have a lot of people who are very confused about what anything means.

Is socialism your boogie man? Have you never seen the photos of republican voters with the signs that say things about keeping the government out of their social security and Medicare? Americans love socialism when they think it benefits them, they just don't like it when they think they're already doing badly and it's designed to help someone else, instead. Many Americans are even confused about how much taxes they even pay (a significant number of people pay no federal income tax at all).

Do you know what the most popular legislation of the last ten years is? The covid-19 rescue package from a few months ago. Know what one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation of the last ten years was? Trump's big tax cut for the wealthy and big business.

People actually want the government to do things that they want to have done for them, they just often disagree about the what they want part.

Those people with those signs are demanding the benefit they were extorted paid for. What you say is true though as you demonstrate in the reception to those two pieces of legislation. People who believe the media simply believe things that aren't so, like the tax cuts are unpopular and the profligate spending is.

The examples you gave were things controlled by the media. People don't have any clue what are in those legislations and just believe what someone tells them. If they actually read them, they would hate them and realize the gross amount of waste that could have gone to individuals.

Socialism isn't a bad concept, its actually great having everyone work together for the common good and be at equal levels. The problem is socialism, utopia, etc cannot exist in this world. People are evil, are not at the same level, get jealous and covet things, etc. Someone has to run socialism and those people are usually the worst of the worst. Someone has to police the community to make sure everyone to putting in their required work. People feel valued less when their work is more important than the janitor but they get the same "pay".

It just can't work and all of the social programs have been run into the ground by the evil people in the government looking to find ways to skim off the top.

Social security is/was a huge mistake.  Most people think that they "get" what they "payed into" it.  That's not the way that it works.  Many people also think that social security = retirement income.  That is false.

Most people over the age of say 45 want to be left alone and would like to keep more of the money that they have earned rather than have the government confiscate it from them.

A bit of a hint here.  "Most popular" legislation does not mean the best legislation.  It doesn't matter what is the "most popular".  We are not a democracy.

Another bit of a hint.  The tax cuts under the Trump administration benefited everyone.

I really think we could do social welfare if we could keep corruption out of it. The lack of accountability in our institutions is a major concern.
