PS  Bernie is a millionaire too.

The country has pretty much always been where it is right now. We just have a lot of people who are very confused about what anything means.

Is socialism your boogie man? Have you never seen the photos of republican voters with the signs that say things about keeping the government out of their social security and Medicare? Americans love socialism when they think it benefits them, they just don't like it when they think they're already doing badly and it's designed to help someone else, instead. Many Americans are even confused about how much taxes they even pay (a significant number of people pay no federal income tax at all).

Do you know what the most popular legislation of the last ten years is? The covid-19 rescue package from a few months ago. Know what one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation of the last ten years was? Trump's big tax cut for the wealthy and big business.

People actually want the government to do things that they want to have done for them, they just often disagree about the what they want part.

The examples you gave were things controlled by the media. People don't have any clue what are in those legislations and just believe what someone tells them. If they actually read them, they would hate them and realize the gross amount of waste that could have gone to individuals.

Socialism isn't a bad concept, its actually great having everyone work together for the common good and be at equal levels. The problem is socialism, utopia, etc cannot exist in this world. People are evil, are not at the same level, get jealous and covet things, etc. Someone has to run socialism and those people are usually the worst of the worst. Someone has to police the community to make sure everyone to putting in their required work. People feel valued less when their work is more important than the janitor but they get the same "pay".

It just can't work and all of the social programs have been run into the ground by the evil people in the government looking to find ways to skim off the top.
