PS  Bernie is a millionaire too.

The country has pretty much always been where it is right now. We just have a lot of people who are very confused about what anything means.

Is socialism your boogie man? Have you never seen the photos of republican voters with the signs that say things about keeping the government out of their social security and Medicare? Americans love socialism when they think it benefits them, they just don't like it when they think they're already doing badly and it's designed to help someone else, instead. Many Americans are even confused about how much taxes they even pay (a significant number of people pay no federal income tax at all).

Do you know what the most popular legislation of the last ten years is? The covid-19 rescue package from a few months ago. Know what one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation of the last ten years was? Trump's big tax cut for the wealthy and big business.

People actually want the government to do things that they want to have done for them, they just often disagree about the what they want part.

Social security is/was a huge mistake.  Most people think that they "get" what they "payed into" it.  That's not the way that it works.  Many people also think that social security = retirement income.  That is false.

Most people over the age of say 45 want to be left alone and would like to keep more of the money that they have earned rather than have the government confiscate it from them.

A bit of a hint here.  "Most popular" legislation does not mean the best legislation.  It doesn't matter what is the "most popular".  We are not a democracy.

Another bit of a hint.  The tax cuts under the Trump administration benefited everyone.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.
